They’re putting a few more floods on, but the ice is basically ready, and looking good! Congratulations to Lance, Roy, Al, and everyone else (all the ice-painters, including Jim, Ray, Mark, Dick, etc.) who helped get the ice ready in record time! Thanks also to Lowther Refrigeration, Town of Cornwall, and Ben Livingston and Sons Ltd. Welders for getting the brine chiller out of the building, repaired, and back without incident!

Good curling everyone!
The lines (ribbons) are being put on the ice surface today. A few more floods, and we’ll be curling!
This is a reminder that Junior (age 20 and under) registration will be Monday and Tuesday October 19th and 20th from 7-9 pm. The Junior program starts on the 26th.
Registration for new adult members will take place in conjunction with Introduction to Curling nights, Oct. 19-21 from 7-9 pm. Adult evening curling starts on Oct. 22nd.
Due to insufficient signup, the Golf and Curling Transition spiel, scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled.
Here’s a slideshow of the circle-painting action from today. Lines go on next (should be easier, as, for the most part, they use ribbons instead of messy paint!).
The painting can be tricky. Lance says there can be large gusts of wind that can move your hand and cause a problem
. The pictures of Al with the broom are the result of a little mistake where the ice had to be cleaned and the painters had to start over…..but only one time. As for the last photo, Lance wanted a picture of him standing and watching to “show who’s boss”!
The icemakers are busy this morning painting the ice a nice shade of white!

Here are a couple of photos of the tremendous progress that is being made in getting our ice ready. Icemakers Lance Lowther and Al MacCormac are literally working around the clock, with floods every few hours on a 24/7 basis. At this pace, it won’t be long until we’ll be curling!

Head icemaker Lance Lowther is looking for help with painting the ice. Due to the earlier ice plant problem, we are trying to fit two weeks of icemaking into one, so your help is needed more than ever this year. The flooding is going well, but he is not yet sure exactly when the painting will happen. Please call his cell at 393-1148 if you can spare some time between now and next Sunday. Thanks in advance for helping out!
The Wednesday night Ladder League will get underway on October 28th, with Qualifier Night, where teams will play other teams chosen at random, with the winning teams going into the A pool, and the runners-up going to the B division. We have a full draw of 18 teams, with one team from each pool of nine receiving a bye each night (please use the bye teams for spares!). All games will be eight ends, with draws at 6:30 and 8:30, with the exception of Qualifier Night, where we will have to accommodate an extra two teams, which we will do by having three six-end games on ice one, with draw times of 6, 7:30, and 9 pm (those who were in the league last year will be familiar with these ice times!). After the teams are pooled, they will play a round robin against the other teams in their pool. It takes nine weeks to run a full round robin (you play eight other teams, plus the bye), so we will not be able to fit in three full round robins (we’ll work out the schedule later), so you may not play everyone in your pool on a particular round. At the end of each round, the bottom three teams from the A pool will trade places with the top three teams from the B pool. No curling on Dec. 30th. Teams will be awarded three points for a win, one for a loss, and zero for a loss by default. Scores will also be recorded, and used only for tie breaking. Prizes for A pool winner and runner-up each round, plus B pool winner in final round.
Please visit the draw web page for full rules. Read more…
Head icemaker Lance Lowther reports that, following repair of the brine chiller, the ice plant is now ”up and running” . It will be cold enough for the first flood by Saturday morning.
