Cornwall’s Smith rink, along with Ch’town’s MacPhee team, advance to Saint John cashspiel semi-finals

Charlottetown’s Robyn MacPhee and Cornwall’s Veronica Smith rinks both made Sunday’s playoffs in the 10 team women’s division of the WFG Jim Sullivan Classic in Saint John. No PEI teams are entered in the 18 rink men’s section of this annual event, in memory of New Brunswick curler Jim Sullivan, who struggled with mental illness. MacPhee finished round robin play with a 3-1 win-loss record in her pool and goes directly to the 12 noon semi-finals, while Smith, who had a 2-2 record, played Shelly Graham of Moncton in the 8:30 am quarter-finals, winning 6-2, and now takes on Jennifer Armstrong of Fredericton in the other noontime semi. Sylvie Robichaud is playing Sarah Mallais in the other quarter, with the winner facing MacPhee. The final is at 3 pm.
