KidSport PEI – so that all kids have the chance to play!

KidSport is a program that helps remove the financial barriers that limit some children from participating in sport. KidSport PEI believes all PEI children should have the opportunity to experience the positive benefits that sport offers.

Cornwall  Curling Club member Lauren Lenentine is one of the KidSport Ambassadors that help inspire young athletes through promotion and event support. to ensure that no kid is left on the sidelines.

The importance of sport and recreation became clearer as PEI sporting organizations saw the loss of programming due to COVID-19 back in March. Slowly, thanks to the efforts of all Islanders, we have started taking the steps to our new normal. Now more than ever it’s important to ensure Island youth get the opportunity to participate in organized sport. Kids need sport, and for lower-income families that need is even greater.

The Cornwall Curling Club congratulates KidSport on this great initiative and encourages those who meet the criteria to apply, and those who wish to support it to make a donation.

The reality is that cost keeps 1 in 3 Canadian kids out of organized sport. KidSport provides grants to help cover those costs to ensure that no kid is ever left watching from the sidelines.

Effective September 16th to December 31st, 2020, the criteria on PEI will be as follows:

Number of Children Net Annual Family Income
1 $40,000 or less
2 $42,000 or less
3 $44,000 or less
4 $46,000 or less
More than 4 Add $2000 for each additional child

Additionally, the grant per child will be increased from $300 to $400.

Names of recipients of this program are kept confidential.

$1.8 MILLION has been granted to kids in Prince Edward Island since 1997.

OVER 9,100 kids have been helped in Prince Edward Island since 1997.

By supporting KidSport we all win. When kids have access to sport they improve in school, become stronger leaders, create safer communities, ignite inclusivity and fuel healthy habits for life.
