Our Club Championships were held on the weekend, with some really great shot-making and curling from ALL teams!
The Chair and Draw Master of the event was our Board of Director Member and Chair of Membership and Draws Robbie Doherty. Thank you to Robbie for the time he put into planning this event during these unusual times.
Unfortunately, reports of ice rain / flash freeze (no not the kind of flash freeze where you freeze to a rock on the button!) on Friday evening caused a delay in starting the event as scheduled Friday evening… but all teams were still eager to represent their home club on Saturday and Sunday!

The Women’s division included two teams this year: Team Sandy Hope and Team Karen Currie. It was determined by the Draw Master in consultation with the teams to have a best out of three series. Team Currie narrowly took the first game win. Game two proved to have some more fantastic curling, with the difference being Team Currie scoring five points in the fifth end, with the game ending at 9-4, giving Team Currie the win and Women’s Club Championship title!
Team Currie (L-R): Karen Currie, Mellissa Creighton, Angela Sanderson, Jenine Bodner
Team Currie took home the $120.00 first-place prize, with Team Hope winning $60.00.
Other members of the Hope rink were Nancy MacFadyen, Karen Hardy, and Debbie Rhodenhizer
The Men’s Division offered a double knock-out format. Team Robbie Doherty, who was undefeated, curled against Team Mark MacDonald, who had only one loss (to Team Doherty), in the 12-noon draw Sunday afternoon. If Team MacDonald won, they would move on to play Team Doherty again at 3:30 pm. If Team Doherty won they would become Club Champions! And what a game it was!! A very tight battle with incredible shot-making by both teams! The spectators who watched this game got to see some awesome curling!
Team Doherty needed a long runback double takeout to score a win in the last end. And skip Robbie Doherty threw a zinger! Chris MacDougall sent us this video of the incredible shot!
Game over and our new Men’s Club Champions were crowned!
(L-R) Team 5th player Lincoln Peters (lead Ryan Giddens was unavailable to play on Sunday), Brooks Roche, Club Past President Chris MacDougall presenting the cheque, Kyle Holland, Robbie Doherty
Team Robbie Doherty won the Cornwall Men’s Championship plus $300.00
Team Mark MacDonald won $200.00
The ice conditions were top shelf and Robbie Doherty thanked Cornwall Curling Club Ice Technician Brent for excellent ice!
Robbie also thanked the Club management and staff for their contributions.
All curlers enjoyed a special mimosa and some muffins and donuts when they came off the ice after their first draw. Thank you to the anonymous donor for being a part of this special event.
Good Luck to our women’s and men’s teams as they move onto the Provincial Club Championships, scheduled for March 23-27 in Summerside!
