Our Junior curlers are invited to join our special guests, as they share their talent and experience with young competitive curlers!
We even have a special “coaches only” clinic!
This series of clinics is FREE to all ‘Cornwall Curling Club Junior Practice Curlers’ (and coaches).

Wednesday, March 23rd, 4 pm-5 pm: Coaching Super Series 22′ -Session #1 “Peel” with Craig Savill
On Wednesday, March 23rd the first session of the “Coaching Super Series” will be centred around throwing peel weight shots and will be led by Craig Savill. Craig will be focusing on “throwing the big weight accurately like the pros”!
Craig is a Men’s World Curling Champion, a Brier Champion, as well as a two-time World Junior Champion and a two-time National Junior Champion!

Craig played lead for Glenn Howard for 11 seasons. During this time, he appeared in eight consecutive Briers and medaled in each one, winning gold in 2007 and 2012. Craig and the rest of Team Howard added two more gold medals in 2007 and 2012 while representing Team Canada at the World Men’s Curling Championships. In 2009, he was a silver medalist at the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials. He has also won 13 Grand Slam of Curling titles. Craig currently coaches the Czech Republic men’s curling team, he is a member of the Cornwall Curling Club and a cherished Novice Instructor in our junior programming.
Wednesday, March 30th, 4 pm-5 pm: Coaching Super Series ’22 -Session #2 “Sweeping” with Meaghan Hughes
On Wednesday, March 30th the second session of the “Coaching Super Series” will focus on effective sweeping techniques and will be led by Team Birt’s Meaghan Hughes. Meaghan is a 6-time PEI Scotties champion, four-time PEI U21 provincial champion, and represented PEI at the Canada Winter Games in 2003. She currently plays second on Team Birt’s front end. Meaghan (along with teammate Michelle Quaid) is part of one of the top sweeping duos among Canada’s élite curlers!

In the past four seasons, Team Birt has been very successful playing on the World Curling Tour, qualifying for the playoffs in several events. During the 2021-2022 season, they were finalists in the Oakville Fall Classic and the Oakville Labour Day Classic and won the Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic. They also curled in the Olympic Trials Direct-Entry Event and the Olympic Pre-Trials. Meaghan Hughes, along with her teammates on Team Birt, are members and curl out of the Cornwall Curling Club and the Montague Curling Club, and are often “giving back” to juniors across the province.

March 30th, 4 pm-5 pm: Coaching Super Series 22’- Session #3 “Driven to Compete – Essential building blocks for athletes” with Kathy O’Rourke
On Wednesday, April 6th the third session of the “Coaching Super Series” is a special session for ‘coaches only’. Six-time Provincial Curling Champion, Canadian Mixed Champion, and current Coach of PEI’s Team Birt, Kathy O’Rourke will be leading a session on “Driven to Compete – Essential building blocks for athletes.”. This off-ice session will focus on different aspects of coaching: including building confidence, team dynamics, strategy, and basic
nutrition. This clinic will be helpful both for experienced coaches and those who are new to coaching junior curling.

Kathy has represented PEI in eight Scotties as both a player and coach. In 2010, she skipped her team in an exciting final of the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts, winning a silver medal for Prince Edward Island. Kathy has also played in two Canadian Mixed Championships, winning the event in 1989. Throughout her career, Kathy has played every position at high level competitions, giving her a wealth of knowledge and experience of curling. Kathy was inducted to the PEI Sports Hall of Fame in 2018, received the ‘Senate of Canada Award’ in 2019, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Curling Canada. Kathy is currently a member at the Cornwall Curling Club and is an incredible advocate for the sport in our community and on a national level.
