Cornwall Civic Centre needs more money, despite $2 million investment (Guardian)

CORNWALL – The town has been asked to shell out $38,850 for Entire Mechanical Contractors to install air conditioning in the newly-constructed and already finished Civic Centre which is attached to the curling club.

Despite the investment of $2 million from three levels of government through the Building Canada Fund to construct the new civic centre, the end result is a meeting space that has echoing acoustics that hurt the ears and is a sweltering sauna in the summer, a recent meeting of town council was told.

“How soon, Mr. Mayor, can they put it in,” said Councillor Irene Dawson, laughing, about the air conditioning.

She was told ASAP.

“We just spent millions of dollars on the Civic Centre,” said Coun. Marlene Hunt.

“You can’t hear yourself talk in it the acoustics are so bad and there is no air conditioning. I’m just shocked that we have to put out more money because we have to have air conditioning.
