Fullerton, Gallant, win A finals at Pepsi Juniors

The Brett Gallant rink from Charlottetown, and Cornwall’s Sarah Fullerton foursome have won their respective “A” section finals at the triple-knockout Pepsi Provincial Junior Curling Championships at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary.  This advances them to the two-game championship round. Should either team win all three sections, they would win their championship without the need for the playoff round. Should a team win two of the three sections, they would play in both championship games, and win the title should they take either game.

The Gallant team, who are reigning Canadian champions and World Silver Medallists, and are looking for their 5th straight PEI Juniors title, took six points in the eighth end in an 11-2 victory over Matthew MacLean of the host club, while MacLean’s sister Amanda lost a close 6-5 decision to Fullerton.

Other members of the Gallant rink are Adam Casey, Anson Carmody, and Alex MacFadyen, with coaches Kathie and Peter Gallant. Rounding out the Fullerton team are Michelle McQuaid, Sarah MacRae, and Whitney Young, with coach Brenda MacMillan.

Amanda MacLean takes on Anita Casey and her Charlottetown Curling Club rink, while Fullerton plays Tiffany Sweet of O’Leary at 4:3o pm, with the winners advancing to the B final, Sunday morning at 10.

At 8 tonight in the junior men’s section,  Gallant plays Sam Ramsay and his combined Charlottetown/Silver Fox rink, while MacLean takes on Spencer Pitre and his Charlottetown Curling Club team. with the winners playing off in the B final Sunday at 1 pm.

The eventual winners will advance to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Championships, January 16-24 in Sorel-Tracy Quebec.
