Team PEI, including Cornwall’s McCloskey, wrap up Canadian Mixed play

The 2016 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship wrapped up on Saturday afternoon in Toronto, with Mick Lizmore’s Alberta squad from Edmonton completing  a perfect, unbeaten week with a 4-2 win over Saskatchewan’s Bruce Korte in the gold-medal game.

With the win, Lizmore, third Sarah Wilkes, second Brad Thiessen and lead Alison Kotylak will represent Canada at the 2016 World Mixed Championship, Oct. 15-22 in Kazan, Russia. The 2017 Canadian Mixed Championship is scheduled for Nov. 14-19, 2016, in Yarmouth, N.S.

PEI, skipped by Charlottetown’s Eddie MacKenzie, with Cornwall’s Chloé McCloskey at third stone, finished round robin play with a 1-5 win-loss record, beating BC’s Dean Joanisse rink, and losing a close 7-6 match to Lizmore in their final game, and then competed in the Seeding Pool, where they picked up a win against Nunavut, after losses to Manitoba, and Ontario, finishing with an overall 2-7 record for the event.
