Thibodeau and MacDonald win Ladder League round 2

We’re down to the last round of the season at the Wednesday evening Ladder League. Round 2 was very close in the six team A pool, with four teams coming out with three losses, making it very difficult to determine a winner, especially when a team may have played another team twice (this was necessary to even the number of games out with the other pool). The teams in contention for top spot, each with 3 losses, were skipped by Robert Thibodeau, Donald DeWolfe, Paul Neima, and Bob Fowler. Fowler defaulted one game so is eliminated, as he has one less point. The rules state that we then look at head to head records between the teams. However, that is not possible as Thibodeau and DeWolfe played each other twice (each picking up  a win), while Neima had only one game against each, so the records aren’t comparable.

All we’re left with is to add up the points between the three teams, and divide by the number of games played against each other (3 for DeWolfe and Thibodeau, 2 for Neima. Doing this gets us:

So it looks like Thibodeau, helped out by an 11-0 win and two games with only a one point score difference, repeats as winner (despite not having beaten Neima!). The A pool in round 2 was sponsored by Mary’s Cornwall Bakery.

Only two teams drop down from the A to the B pool this round and three come up, so that the last round will have the extra team (and the bye) in the A pool. The teams dropping down are Kelly Watts with 4 losses. and Dave Younker, with 5.

Calculating the B winner, sponsored by Griffin’s Auto Service, is easy – Mark MacDonald picked up 5 wins and a loss. He’ll also be moving up to the A pool, along with Gord Peters and Val Acorn with just two losses each.

Here are the pools for Round 3. The Neima team has requested the bye in week one. We have an extra week at the end, and will use it if there is a cancellation on another night. If not, we’ll figure something else out.
