We`re back for another season of the Wednesday Evening Ladder League, starting THIS Wednesday, Nov. 9. There`s a drop in the number of teams from last year, and an odd number (11), which means there will be one bye each week. If another team (or three!) would like to sign up, please do, so that everyone can play every week!

Looking at the calendar, between now and the end of March, I count 20 weeks, after excluding the week between Christmas and New Years. Since we will have two pools, of six and five teams, this means that it takes five weeks to run a round, so we will have four rounds of five weeks this season. We will start with the A pool having six teams, and the B pool five. At the end of each round, one team from the five-team pool will move up (if in B) or down (if in A) the ladder to the other pool, while two teams will move from the six team pool, so the A and B pools will alternate having five or six teams (unless, of course, another team arrives). In order to fit in all the weeks, and since all teams but one are returning teams, I have decided to forgo Qualifier Night, and have divided the teams by having all the teams who won a prize last year for finishing at the top of their pool go into the A pool, while those who didn’t will go to the B, so the first round robin will commence on November 9th. Like we did last year, the A and B pools will alternate draw slot times. We will use sheets one through three only, and one of the 3 sheets will be empty each night when the five team pool plays. Shorthanded teams from both pools are expected to use players from the Bye team if at all possible.
