Wednesday Night Ladder Round Two set to go-Paul Neima and Joerg Soltermann rinks win round 1

Round one of the Wednesday Night Ladder League, sponsored by Don Lowther Snow Removal, and Howard Johnson Dutch Inn, wrapped up on Wednesday, with round two, sponsored by Cornwall Pizza Delight and Clyde River Golf Links starting up this Wednesday, the 21st.

The Paul Neima rink finished in first place in the A pool in round one, winning all five games .
Second and third place get complicated. Bob Fowler had three wins, going into his final game against Angus Kennedy, who had two wins. The two teams tied after eight ends, and did not draw to the button to determine the winner, as is stated in the rules. To resolve the tie, I tossed a coin (with Nancy Yeo as witness), and Angus came out the winner. This meant that both teams now had three wins. Since Angus beat Bob (by winning the coin toss) in their game, he gets second place.
Angus’ “win” left two teams tied for third with two wins each, with one of them to go down the ladder to the B pool for round two. Karen Currie edged Bob MacWilliams 10-9 in their round robin encounter on Nov, 23, so Karen stays in the A pool, and Bob moves down to the B.
Gord Peters was on the injury list early in the season, and his team got off to a slow, and will also move down to the B pool.

Things get even more complicated in the B pool, with two teams joining mid-round. Three teams will move up to the A pool, to give them the bye for the second round.
Joerg Solterman played and won all five of his games, so will be awarded first place.
Greg Groves had three wins, a bye, and a loss, and will be awarded second or third place. (you pick!)
Kris Currie had two decisive wins and a bye, and will also be awarded second or third place.
These three  teams will move up the ladder to  the A pool for the next round.
Ray Biagé had three wins, a loss to Soltermann, and a loss by default to Groves (we borrowed one of their players, and lost on the scoreboard, too!), and will stay in the B pool.
The Colleen Soltermann, Kelly Watts and David Younker teams will also remain in the B pool.
So, after all this, here are the teams for round two:
Pool A (seven teams)
A1-Paul Neima
A2-Angus Kennedy
A3-Bob Fowler
A4-Karen Currie
A5-Joerg Soltermann
A6-Greg Groves
A7-Kris Currie

Pool B (six teams)
Bob MacWilliams
Gord Peters
Ray Biagé
David Younker
Kelly Watts
Colleen Soltermann

For round two, the six team B pool will play a full five week round robin with no byes.
The seven team A pool will have one bye each week, with first byes going to teams that didn’t have one last round, and will play a five week partial round robin, as we can’t have the two pools finishing at different times, or the B pool sitting out two weeks (it would take seven weeks to have each A pool team play all other teams and the bye) or replaying the first two weeks.
As is our custom, we will not play between Christmas and New Year’s.
