Abraham team from Halifax, Comeau rink from Fredericton win Silver Fox Fall Fling Jr. Cashspiel

The 10th annual Fall Fling Junior Cashspiel wrapped up this afternoon at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex in Summerside, with rinks from Halifax and Fredericton taking the finals.

The Ryan Abraham team from the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax won the 10 team Junior Men’s division, beating the Evan McDonah squad from the Truro Curling Club in the 1 pm final. Abraham had a one-point lead after eight ends but stole a single in the 9th and a deuce in the 10th end for a 7-3 final score. Other members of the winning Ryan Abraham rink are third Mitchell Cortello, second stone Jake Flemming, and lead Thomas Mosher. Paul Flemming is team coach. Other members of the McDonah team include Adam McEachern. Alex McDonah and David McCurdy, with coach Dave Williams. Abraham edged Liam Marin and his squad from the Thistle St. Andrews club in Saint John New Brunswick 6-5 in an extra end in the Sunday morning semi-final, while McDonah edged Leslie Noye and his foursome from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, also by a 6-5 score.

Meanwhile, the Justine Comeau rink from the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton NB took the 12 team Junior Women’s division, beating the Shaelyn Park squad from Curl Moncton 9-2 in the final, which went only six ends. Comeau’s team includes third Emma LeBlanc, second Brigitte Comeau, and lead stone Keira McLaughlin, with coach Tim Comeau. Completing the runner-up Park foursome are third Julia Goodin, second Molli Ward, and lead Lauren Whiteway, with coach Mark Whiteway. Comeau beat Cornwall’s Meghan Ching rink 8-3, while Park tripled Taylor Stevens of Chester 9-3 in the morning semi-final round.

Junior Women’s Round-robin play 
Stevens finished with a spotless 5-0 record in the B pool, The Ching team, with a hit and roll to the button, got by another Cornwall rink, skipped by Alexis Burris, 6-5 in a closely-fought battle Saturday evening to finish round robin play with a 4-1 record, with Burris, clubmate Lauren Ferguson, and Charlottetown’s Katie Shaw finishing at 2-3. Lillian Sanderson of the Northumberland Curling Club in Pugwash NS went 0-5.

The junior women’s A pool saw Comeau and Park both finish round-robin play at 4-1, with Cornwall’s Lauren Lenentine, and Isabelle Ladouceur of the Lakeshore Curling Club in Sackville NS going 3-2. Jenna Bishara of Bridgewater NS went 1-4, while Gabrielle Lirette of Curl Moncton didn’t manage to come out on the winning side in their games.

Junior Men’s Round Robin

Liam Marin of the Thistle St. Andrews club in Saint John NB was the only undefeated rink in the 10 team, two pool, junior men’s section, with a 5-0 record, and advanced to the semi final against  Ryan Abraham of the Halifax Mayflower Club, who finished in second spot in the same pool with a 4-1 win-loss record, while  Leslie Noye of the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, who finished at 4-1, and Evan McDonah of Truro, who finished the round robin at 3-2, advanced to the other semi. James Dalton of the Halifax Mayflower club and Mitchell Schut of Cornwall, both with 2-3 win-loss records, along with Devin Schut of Cornwall, and Seth Doucette of the Northumberland club in Pugwash, both at 1-4, and the young Cruz Pineau rink from the host club, who didn’t quite manage to pull out a win.

The Sunday semi-finals and finals were 10 end games. The round robin matches were 8 ends.
