Cornwall Curling Club Closed Next 3 Days, then reopens March 4 for practice. League play on hold until Circuit Breaker ends

Note to All Cornwall Curling Club Members and User Groups:

Given the recent announcement from the CPHO relating to a “Circuit Breaker” for the Island starting 8 this morning, and the subsequent news announced late this afternoon relating to the three-day shut down of all recreation facilities as a part of the province-wide Modified Red Alert…. we are sure you are wondering what the Club’s operational plan will look like.

We will start by advising you that there is no indication that our club has been affected in the recent COVID-19 cases.

As per today’s news conference, the CPHO has advised us that there will be no sports allowed in our province for the next three days. This includes all practice and games.

Therefore our Club facilities will be closed for the next three days beginning at midnight tonight.

We will plan to re-open Thursday, March 4th at 9 am.

Here is a tentative club schedule starting then, assuming that the mandate for “practice only” sport continues.

(Please note that this schedule can change according to the directives of the CPHO, thus changes in our operational plan.)

The club will open for opportunities for all our members (only) to call the Club and book practice times.

We will begin welcoming bookings for such at 12 noon Tuesday, March 2nd.

Practice is defined as the act of doing something regularly or repeatedly to improve a skill.

Practice ice will be allocated, on a first-come-first-served basis, to a group of no more than 4 curlers per sheet (this group of curlers will be considered a “team” for the duration of the day of the booking) for the purpose of practicing or maintaining the skills required to play the game of curling.

At this time, curlers are not to practice with more than one team per day.

The team practicing on a sheet may dedicate some of their allocated ice time to participating in a period of simulated gameplay. This simulated gameplay will not involve other curlers outside of those who are registered as practicing on that sheet.

Practice times will be offered in one-hour blocks, as follows:

At that time the Club will issue an update on operation plans.

In terms of practice, we ask that all curlers arrive no sooner than ten minutes before practice.

That curlers arrive ready to curl.

That they check in with the attendant on site as to what sheet they are on, and proceed to the corresponding table number.

That they leave the club directly after practice.

All other guidelines will remain the same as before (ie. sign in upon arrival, sanitize hands and rocks, one parent per child, etc… )

Please follow our website and social media for updates throughout the days to come.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Club Manager at 902-566-4427. She will be on-site Monday to Friday 9 am to 6 pm, and perhaps Saturday.

We appreciate the support of our members as we move through these challenging times.

We have heard our Premier’s call/hope for citizens to remain active, and we have heard your messages to us that curling is an important part of your self-care and your mental and physical health plan. Our Return to Play Committee, Board of Directors, and Management have always been aware of our role of such in the lives of our members and user groups.

Please be assured that there is a team of people working very hard to plan for the remainder of the season in a way that will build upon on success in the 2020-21 season in which we have been able to curl safely during these unusual times~  while we respect and work within the guidelines as set out by the CPHO and our operational plan.

Please know, that we have already documented the importance of recreation and curling in the lives of our member groups to the CPHO. They are aware and cognizant of such and are committed to working together with us to offer such opportunities safely.

We will continue to work with the CPHO in ways that continue to offer recreation as an option at 29 Cornwall Road as safely as possible.

We have many exciting plans to come on how we can move into the last part of our season and have some fun …so stay tuned … and be safe.
