In the 12 team junior women’s section, Justine Comeau of Fredericton NB’s Capital Winter Club takes on Cornwall’s Meghan Ching, while Taylor Stevens from the Chester NS Curling Club faces Shaelyn Park of Curl Moncton in the semis. Taylor finished with a spotless 5-0 record in the B pool, The Ching team, with a hit and roll to the button, got by another Cornwall rink, skipped by Alexis Burris, 6-5 in a closely-fought battle Saturday evening to finish round robin play with a 4-1 record, with Burris, clubmate Lauren Ferguson, and Charlottetown’s Katie Shaw finishing at 2-3. Lillian Sanderson of the Northumberland Curling Club in Pugwash NS went 0-5.
The junior women’s A pool saw Comeau and Park both finish round-robin play at 4-1, with Cornwall’s Lauren Lenentine, and Isabelle Ladouceur of the Lakeshore Curling Club in Sackville NS going 3-2. Jenna Bishara of Bridgewater NS went 1-4, while Gabrielle Lirette of Curl Moncton didn’t manage to come out on the winning side in their games.
Liam Marin of the Thistle St. Andrews club in Saint John NB was the only undefeated rink in the 10 team, two pool, junior men’s section, with a 5-0 record, and will face Ryan Abraham of the Halifax Mayflower Club, who finished in second spot in the same pool with a 4-1 win-loss record in one junior men’s 9 am semi-final, while Leslie Noye of the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, who finished at 4-1, and Evan McDonah of Truro, who finished the round robin at 3-2, square off in the other semi-final.
Finishing out of the playoffs were Chris Gallant of the Charlottetown Curling Complex (4-1), James Dalton of the Halifax Mayflower club and Mitchell Schut of Cornwall, both with 2-3 win-loss records, along with Devin Schut of Cornwall, and Seth Doucette of the Northumberland club in Pugwash, both at 1-4, and the young Cruz Pineau rink from the host club, who didn’t quite manage to pull out a win.
The 9 am semi-finals and the 1 pm finals are 10 end games. The round robin matches were 8 ends.
