Curl for Cancer moves to Cornwall Curling Club (Saltwire Media)

CORNWALL, P.E.I. — The 37th annual Curl for Cancer is returning this year to a new location at the Cornwall Curling Club.

The event, first organized in the 1980s by Carole Kennedy in Charlottetown, didn’t take place last year when the capital city club closed.

Longtime chair Lisa Jackson approached Cornwall this fall looking for a new home.

“After missing out on hosting an event last year, we are very excited to announce that the Cornwall Curling Club has agreed to host the 37th annual Curl For Cancer fundraising extravaganza,” said Jackson.

The Cornwall club has donated the ice time, and the bonspiel will take place Dec. 11, with draws at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. There are prizes for the winning teams in each draw.

Jackson says she’s hoping for a full turnout of 24 teams to re-launch the charity event.

To register, contact Lisa Jackson at 902-316-0449 or email at jackson.lisajoy@gmail.com. Cost is $25 per player or $100 per team. Supporters can follow the event on Facebook.

There will be baked goods for sale, a silent auction and an opportunity to purchase memorial rocks in memory of a loved one or in honour of someone battling cancer.

“A vital part of our fundraising success has been our auction,” said Jackson.

All proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Any business, service club or individual interested in helping out with prizes or donations can contact Jackson.

Curlers are reminded they must show proof of double vaccination for COVID-19 and provide identification. Masks must be worn at all times off the ice, except when eating or drinking.
