Currie foursome wins annual Club golf tourney

It was a perfect day for our 16th annual golf tournament at Countryview Golf Club, with the weather warming up quickly from its frosty start, getting into the 20’s by the time the teams finished their last holes.  The 9th hole proved to be a challenge, with the teams having to use the supplied curling broom for putting! It looks like Marg Stewart has the hang of it (although we ended up two-putting).

Back at Countryview’s beautiful clubhouse, everyone lined up for a burger and fries, and headed to the deck.

Many also stopped at the prize table, to take a look at all the great prizes, which included a barbecue utensils set (in the Sameday case), Paderno pots and pans, glassware, a car cleaning kit, a Countryview towel, and gift certificates.

Soon, it was time for the awards. Organizer Gary  O’Sullivan started by asking Bob Fowler to lead everyone in raising their glasses in honour of Club member Lew Black, who passed away recently. Gary, assisted by Bryan Sutherland, started the prize presentation by handing out the trophy, and Cornwall Curling Club gift certificates, to the winning team, which included Carl Currie, Shelley Ebbett, Tracy MacDonald, and George Younker. They scored a 35.

Next up were the individual achievement awards. The men’s closest to the pin award went to Robert Thibodeau.

Bob Fowler won the BBQ tools, for the closest tee shot to the line on hole 6.

Next up were the Longest Drive awards, with Angela Sanderson hitting furthest for the women.

Thane Thomson won the long drive for the men, hitting his new Callaway driver perfectly, and beating out the second place player by quite a few feet.

Following the individual prizes, door prizes were drawn for until all the prizes on the table found owners.

Thanks to organizer Gary O’Sullivan, his assistant Bryan Sutherland, and to Bob Fowler, who organized the event for many years, and provided advice and guidance this time around, and took a phone call or two as well.
