Feb. entry deadline reminders for Curl PEI events, and for 55+ Games

Curlers are reminded of the following entry deadlines this month for provincial events. All entries, except for the 55+ Games, must be made online at PEICurling.com.

U18  (Entries due Feb. 3)

The Provincial Under 18 Curling Championships, originally scheduled for the Crapaud Community Curling Club, will now be held at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. Dates remain the same – February 24-28. Entry deadline is February 3, 2017, and entry fee is $125 per team plus Curling Canada participant fee of $7.50 per player. 

Last year’s winners were the Tyler Smith foursome from Crapaud, Charlottetown and Montague, and the Lauren Lenentine team from Cornwall.

The winning U18 teams earn the right to compete in the inaugural Canadian Under 18 Boys and Girls Curling Championship, operated by Curling Canada, April 18 to 22 at Curl Moncton and on arena ice at Moncton’s Superior Propane Centre

55+ Games Regular and Stick Curling (Entries due Feb. 9)

The Town of Cornwall will host the 2017 Vogue Optical 55+ Winter Games from February 20-24, 2017. All seniors are encouraged to participate in this fun, friendly competition.

Events will include: hockey, pickleball, bowling, auction 45s, cribbage, curling, stick curling, contract bridge, duplicate bridge, darts, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, crokinole, squash, badminton, spin cycling, table tennis, and Scrabble.

There will also be a flag raising to open the Games and a Celebration Ceremony and Luncheon to close.

Curling and Stick Curling will both take place at the Cornwall Curling Club, beginning at 8 each morning, with regular curling draws Monday, Feb. 20 through Wed. February 22, and stick curling on Thursday the 23rd, and Friday the 24th.

Registration forms for all events are now available at the Cornwall Curling Club, at other PEI curling and sporting facilities, and at  Vogue Optical locations around the Island. 

Individual event schedules will be posted as soon as they become available following the registration deadline, which is February 9th.

U16  (Entries due Feb. 10)

The Curl PEI Provincial Under 16 Curling Championships, with boy’s and girl’s divisions for curlers under the age of 16 years, is scheduled for the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton from March 3-5. Entry deadline is Friday, February 10, 2017, and entry fee is $105 per team. 

Last year’s champions were the Lauren Lenentine and Mitchell Schut rinks from Cornwall.

Mixed  (Entries due Feb. 10)

The Cornwall Curling Club is hosting the 2017 PEI Mixed (Fours) curling championship from March 3-7. Entry deadline is February 10. Entry fee is $190 per team plus $39 per player Curling Canada participant fees. Defending champions are the team of Veronica Smith, Tyler Smith, Sabrina Smith, and Dylan Lowery.

U13 Open  (Entries due Feb. 17)
The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex in Summerside is the host for the 2017 Provincial Under 13 Open Championship, from March 10-12. The “Open” format means that any combination of girls and/or boys may be on a team. Games in this event are six ends.
