Ladder League round 2 winners and round 3 pools set

Round two, sponsored by Murphy’s Cornwall Pharmacy, is over at the Wednesday evening ladder league, leaving only one (abbreviated) round (six weeks) to go. We’ve been lucky to bypass all the storms so far. Here’s the results from round two:

In the A pool, the Robert Thibodeau rink and the Paul Durant foursome both finished play with only one loss. The two teams met on January 21, with Durant coming out the winner, so he, and his team of  Danny Kneabone, Alan Acorn, Aaron Campbell, will win the sponsor prizes for the A pool this round. Durant came very close to a second place finish, as his last game came down to a draw to the button to break a tie, and his rock went about an inch further than the one thrown by Donald DeWolfe.

As for those descending the ladder to the B pool, the Paul Neima team with one win, and the Greg Groves rink with two will be making the trip. There were three teams with three wins – DeWolfe, round one B pool winner Bob Fowler, and Mark MacDonald.

Looking at head to head records, Fowler beat DeWolfe on Jan. 21, DeWolfe beat MacDonald on the 4th, Fowler beat MacDonald on the 28th. Since Fowler beat both of the other teams, he’s safe in the A pool, leaving DeWolfe and MacDonald. Since DeWolfe also beat MacDonald, he stays in the A pool and MacDonald takes the 3rd spot down the ladder to B.

Looking at the B pool, there are three teams at the top with five wins – Gord Peters, Kim Glydon, and Karen Currie. All of them will move up the ladder to the A pool. Finding a pool winner isn’t quite as easy though.

Glydon and Peters played on Jan. 7th, with Glydon winning 9-7. Peters and Currie met on Jan. 14th, with Peters winning 8-7. Glydon and Currie played on January 28, with Currie winning 6-4 So, nobody beat the other two teams. The rules state that we have to look at “the score differentials of the teams who are tied.” Peters got a total of  15 pts in the games between the three teams, while Glydon got 13, and Currie also earned a total of 13 points, so Peters, and his team of Hank Kamphuis, Gerald Dykerman, and Pat MacInnis wins the prizes for the B pool this round by a two point margin.
