With sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Lew Black, 62, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, on Wednesday, June 8, 2016. Born June 9, 1953, in Salisbury, NB. Dearly loved husband of Elaine (Gallant) for 39 years. Devoted father of Denise (Brad) St. Jean, Jason (Andrea), Janelle (Greg) Kenna, Jacquelyn, Nanette (Eion). Proud Grampie of Nicholas and Laura St. Jean, Isabelle, Hayley, and Samuel Kenna, Scarlet and Addilynn. Survived by his mother, Dorothy (Smith), brother Peter (Darlene) and sisters Nancy (Alf), Diana (Robert) Dunham, Gail McMackin and Terry (Rick) Carter. Fond uncle of countless nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law to Romeo (Eydie) Gallant, Clem (Doreen) Gallant, Yvette Sheehan, Anne Marie (Dean) Johnson, Claire Green, Ronald (Donna) Gallant, Mark (Linda) Gallant, Richard (Geri) Gallant, Anita (Willy) St. Denis, Carmella (Paddy) Cheverie, Adrienne (Mike) Kerwin, Denise (Jerry) Jakubiak, and Al (Doreen) Gallant. Predeceased by his father, Chester Black, his in-laws, Jacques and Clarisse Gallant, brothers-in-law Larry McMackin, George Sheehan, and Bill Green.

Lew spent 39 years in the military as an avionics technician, with his most treasured time as Chief Warrant Officer, in advocating for his people. He was very devoted to family, friends and the community, including volunteering with the RCAF, Mikinduri Children of Hope, Cornwall Curling Club and received recognition for donating blood 50+ times. A special thank you to all the staff, nurses and doctors who took such good care of Lew at both the Moncton and the Queen Elizabeth Hospitals.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home, 175 Belvedere Ave., Charlottetown, PE C1A 2Y9 from 4:30-7:30 pm on Mon, June 13. Funeral on Tues, June 14 at 10 am for Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 5 Lowther Drive, Cornwall, PE C0A 1H0. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honour to Mikinduri Children of Hope Foundation (http://mikinduri.com/donate/) or to Canadian Blood Services (http://fundraising.blood.ca/) would be appreciated.
