Round One of Wed. Night Ladder League set to go

There were few surprises on Qualifier Night of the Wednesday Night Ladder League, which has no new teams this year (just some new players), and most of the randomly-matched teams ending up in the same pool they were in for most of last season. The handicappers picked the game between the Bob Fowler and Gord Peters teams to be the most evenly matched of the night, and they were bang on. The game was tied up coming home, and Fowler had the hammer, but was facing an army of guards out front. He tried an angle raise to the centre, but couldn’t pull it off, and ends up in the B pool for the first round, which is sponsored by Don Lowther Snow Removal.

Here are the Round One pools (team numbers assigned at random):

As we have an even 16 teams in two pools, each of the three rounds will consist of a full seven game round robin. Note that there is no curling on Nov. 24, as the opening ceremonies for The Dominion Canadian Club Curling Championship will be happening on the ice surface. There is also no curling on Dec. 29. Pools will alternate early and late draws. As we gave the A pool the early draw for game 1 last year, we are starting them with the late draw this year.

End of Round One

Finally, here are some quick rule reminders:

Some quick rule reminders:

(1) You cannot have more than two members of your Tuesday night team on your team (even as a spare) on a Wednesday night
(2) If we miss a night for some reason, that night will not be played, and the next night will be as originally scheduled. As each pool has a discrete ice time each night, it will be possible to cancel either the early or late draw on a given night, and not mess up the scoring.
(3) You only need one original member of your team to be there, and three players in total to avoid a default (we’d rather curl than have a default!)
(4) 3 teams move up and three move down the ladder at each round’s end
(5) buzzer rule in effect in both early and late draws
(6) No ties- draw to button with sweeping (your team only) to decide winner
