Weekend wrapup: Annika Kelly rink wins Lakeshore U21, NS teams take Superspiel, Brothers, Dacey capture Dave Jones spiel

 

In Ottawa, Cornwall’s Lauren Lenentine finished play with a 2-3 win-loss record, after losing her C semi-final match Saturday night in the BrokerLink OVCA Junior Superspiel to Ottawa’s Emma Wallingford. The Liam Marin team from Saint John, with PEI’s Tyler Smith at third stone, also finished at 2-3. The event was won by two Nova Scotia rinks, with the Matthew Manuel team from Halifax edging the JT Ryan foursome from Winnipeg 4-3 in an extra end in the final, while the Kaitlyn Jones squad, also from Halifax, beat the Megan Smith team from Sudbury ON 7-2 in six ends.

In the Dave Jones Cashspiel at the Halifax Mayflower club, Cornwall’s Veronica Smith finished at 1-3. Team Jill Brothers, with PEI native Erin Carmody at third, beat Road to the Roar competitor Theresa Breen 7-4 in the championship game. The men’s side was won by Mark Dacey, 6-2 over Chad Stevens in an all-Halifax final.

 

In Grand Slam of Curling action in Lloydminster SK, Brad Gushue, with PEI native Brett Gallant, doubled defending champ Niklas Edin of Sweden 8-4 in the Masters men’s final Sunday to capture his ninth career Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling title. Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones captured her record eighth Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Women’s championship, defeating Kerri Einarson of East St. Paul 6-5 in an all-Manitoba final Sunday at the Masters.
