PEI Junior Women’s champions, the Sarah Fullerton rink from our Club wrapped up play this afternoon in the John Shea Insurance OVCA Junior SuperSpiel, which took place over the weekend in Ottawa. They were the only PEI rink in the event, with teams from as far away as Switzerland.
The Fullerton rink, which includes Michelle McQuaid, Sara MacRae, and Whitney Young, lost their first two games, to Roxanne Perron of Quebec City, and Kendra Lilly of Sudbury, but won against Quebec’s Lisa Davies team on Friday night. On Saturday morning, the PEI rink lost 6-1 to the Stephanie Brown team from Kemptville ON., taking them out of the championship side of the event, and moving them into the consolation round.
On Sunday morning they edged the Colin Thomas rink from St. John’s 5-4 in consolation play [my nephew Spencer Wicks – Nancy’s sister’s son – is on that team.], but lost their noon game to Kendra Lilly of Sudbury by a 6-4 score. Lilly then lost to Gustav Eskillson of Sweden in the consolation final.
In the championship section, Winnipeg’s Joey Witherspoon won the men’s final, 8-7 in an extra end over Mathew Camm of Ottawa, while Lauren Grey of Scottland won the women’s championship, with a 7-6 win over Katiie Lindsay of Toronto.
