Judging from all the positive comments, the PEI Brewing Company Closing Skins Spiel, held this weekend was a success!! Although there were a few curlers, or maybe it was just one (Carlene), who had a difficult time comprehending the ‘hammer’ rule, many curlers suggested the same format for next year’s closing spiel.

The Red Team won the most skins with a total of $145,000.00, while the Blue Team had a total of $143,000.00. GO RED TEAM GO!! For those members who were not present at the event, please don’t get excited, as this was only Monopoly money!

The Blue Team of Eric Leblanc, Bob MacWilliams, Myrna Sanderson and Helen Smith took the individual team prize for depositing a total of $27,000.00 in the Bank of Hardrocks.

Tickets were sold on a ‘reverse draw ‘ for a curling membership and the winner was Lew Black. Gordie Matthews’ name was second last to be drawn and he won a curling broom.

There are many thanks to be extended, starting with a big thank you to The PEI Brewing Company who sponsored this event. Thanks to the Countryview Golf Club and to Traction Heavy Duty Parts for their generous gift certificates/prizes. Thanks to Country Style for the discount on the morning coffee/muffins, and to Trent DeRoche Catering for a lovely meal on Saturday evening.

Thank you to the volunteers who assisted throughout the weekend (apologies if anyone is missed): Bob Fowler, Helen Smith, Bernie Field, Carol Sweetapple, Danielle Girard and to Frank Weiler, our Bar-B-Q Chef for Saturday’s lunch.   A big thanks to Ray Biagé, our Draw Master who had to make numerous last minute changes.

Thanks to our carpenter Frazer Smith (Helen’s husband), for constructing our bank and to Bernie Doiron (Carlene’s brother), for being our Friday night banker. Many thanks to the members who brought in their ‘precious recycled’ gifts for the prize table.

Thank you to our bartenders Kelly and Al who always served us with a smile and to our ‘Ice Man’ Lance, who was always on call even off ice to lift a table or two! Last, but of course not least, many thanks to Bev, our Club Manager who provided her never- ending guidance throughout this event and throughout the season.

We hope that everyone enjoys their ‘off season’ time with family and friends. Cheers for now!!
