USA Ladies Friendship Tour – it (mostly) happened, after all!

Tuesday November 6th, although somewhat challenging for our Club, turned out to be a very rewarding one, with the USA Ladies Friendship tour cancelled, then “uncancelled” at the last minute.

Plans were made for 16 American ladies to curl at our Club at 10:00 a.m..  Due to travel conditions beyond their control, they were unable to arrive in Halifax at their scheduled time and the morning event at our club was cancelled with everyone being notified.

However, after being rerouted; arriving in Halifax at midnight, and numerous phone calls, a decision was made to meet these ladies for lunch at our Club on the 6th.  A mad dash was made to redecorate the Club to some extent and prepare lunch.  Phone calls were once again made to some ladies living nearest the club to help out.  Stick curlers who were curling at the time were also invited to join in.

These ladies came from numerous states:  Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, Maryland, Colorado, Washington, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.  Although their curling experience ranges from 3 to 44 years, they had never curled together.  Needless to say,  when Lance, our icemaker, announced that we could curl a few ends before the juniors’ practice, the US ladies were overjoyed!

Although we were unable to carry out our fully planned agenda, we were able to present each of the ladies with a lovely candleholder made from sea glass collected from our beautiful PEI beaches.

This event had been in the planning stages for many months, was cancelled at the last minute through no one’s fault, and rescheduled.  It could only go forward due to the dedication of our many club members/volunteers.   THANK YOU EVERYONE!!
