Cornwall’s Veronica Smith junior team played a great game this morning to pick up a win against defending champ Heather Smith of Halifax at the Curl Atlantic Championship at the CARI Complex in Charlottetown.

Veronica stole a single in the opening end, a deuce in the third, and a single in the 4th to build up a 4-0 lead. Heather got on the board with one in the 5th. Veronica ran into trouble with a couple of heavy draws in the 6th end, and Heather picked up a triple to tie things up. Veronica picked up a deuce in the seventh to lead 6-4 coming home without hammer.

Lying 1 in the final end, Veronica made a great draw to freeze between and outcount two Team Heather Smith rocks in the 12 foot that were lying 2 and 3. Heather was light with her 1st shot. Veronica came in with a great guard which was also counting #3, leaving Heather with no way to score a deuce with her final shot, so it was handshake time, and will go in the books as a 6-4 win for Team Veronica Smith.
