We have 10 confirmed teams for Wednesday night. If we were to run the Ladder League and avoid byes, this would mean either (A) one pool of six teams and one of four (which wouldn’t work very well), or (B) two pools of five, with one game each week being a crossover with a team from the other pool. The other option, (C) would be to forget the ladder and run round robins of nine weeks each. Option (D) would be to find 2 more teams, and eliminate the crossover games,
Since it’s advertised as a Ladder League (and we don’t have two more teams), I propose we go with option B. We would, after qualifier night, have the following:
3 sheets at 6:30 (two games alternating weekly between A & B pools, plus the crossover)
2 sheets at 8:30 (the two games for the other pool).
We will have two weeks left over with Option B and will use them to cover storms, or have a fun competition of some sort. One of them, March 22, is during March Break, which is always a hard week to field players for. (By the way, we are three weeks short of three rounds for option C).
We may not have enough prizes for four rounds, which is another issue. We would likely have to reduce the prize amounts.
Here’s how Option B would look:
Qualifier night: Oct 19 (you play another team selected at random, with the winners going to the A pool and the losers going to the B for Round one): We would use 4 sheets at 6:30, 1 at 8:30 (one of the two late draw teams will be the Gord Peters rink, who have requested the late draw that week)
At the end of each round, two teams from A pool would drop down to B and two teams from B would move up to A.
Round one: Oct 26, Nov 2, 9, 16, 23
Round two: Nov 30, Dec 7, 14, 21, Jan 4.
Round three: Jan 11, 18, 25, Feb. 1, 8
Round four: Feb. 15, 22, March 1, 8, 15
Remaining dates: March 22, 29
