Welcome, from the President!

Dear Members and Prospective Members:

Welcome to another curling season at our Cornwall Curling Club! On behalf of the Board of Directors I want to wish everyone a great year of curling and fun at our club.

This is going to be a very exciting year for us all as we move into our new club after construction is completed.

On that note there have been many rumours and much speculation about when the Club will reopen. A number of us met at the Club with the contractor and were briefed on the progress being made.  After a very slow start because of weather the construction is going well.

We do have some tentative dates for things to happen — our new ice plant is to arrive before the end of Sept. and will take about 10 days to install. This should allow Lance to start making ice about Oct 10. It usually takes 10-14 days to make ice so we are proposing a start date for curling the week of Oct 24th.  Last year we started league curling on the 17th so we are not far behind.  I want to point out these are the tentative dates. The club will not be completely finished at that time but we will have ice and keen curlers so we should be good to go. You will be provided with more updates on the website and email as we soon as we know.

We will be having registration for returning members on Wed Oct 12 at the Cornwall Town hall starting at 6:30 PM. We may not have access to credit card and Interac there so we ask that you please be prepared to pay with cash or cheque.

On Oct 19th we will have registration for new members and junior curlers again,  at the Cornwall Town Hall.

You will note there is a new schedule for memberships. We have separated the fees for our membership and those we collect for PEICA and CCA. The total cost for you will increase about $5 per person and this is all because of PEICA and CCA fee increases. Our membership has not changed.

On the curling side we will be hosting the Atlantic University Championships in January and will have the Provincial Men’s Tankard as well. There will be the usual club spiels and fun events.

As always this Club’s success is based on the members and volunteers who help out.  If you have any ideas to make things better please tell a board member and do not be afraid to lend a hand. We need you all.

Have a great year curling and remember to have fun!!

Jamie Ballem,  President.
