Come to the Club this aft. for the U16 Opening Draw!

The opening draw of the Advantage Communications Provincial Under 16 championships is happening right here at the Cornwall Curling Club at 2 this afternoon. The remaining draws in the event will take place at the Charlottetown Curling Complex. Come out to Cornwall this afternoon and watch some great curling, with all four Cornwall U16 girl’s teams in action. There is free admission (Ch’town will be charging a Toonie for the other draws), with a 50X50 draw taking place, with all proceeds going to our Junior program’s closing party.

Ice 1 will see Alexis Burris take on Charlottetown’s Katie Shaw, with Emma Coffin facing U18 champ Lauren Lenentine (with 2 new players on the front end) on sheet 2. Rachel MacLean will play Montague’s Emily Sanderson on Ice 3. The Lauren Ferguson team from Crapaud and the Silver Fox has the opening round bye.

Live end by end results will be available at PEICurling.com

Last year’s boy’s winners were the Donald DeWolfe team from Cornwall, who repeated as champs in the three team boy’s division, and were runners-up in this year’s U18 competition, while the Maria Doyle rink from the Silver Fox club in Summerside was the winning girl’s rink last year in a four team field. Neither team is entered this year.  Click for previous years.

This event is now sponsored by Advantage Communications Inc. (ACI), one of Canada’s longest running privately-held outsourcing service providers. Cornwall resident, and former Cornwall club member Kent MacPhee is President and CEO of ACI.

Games are eight ends in length. Time clocks are not used. There is no championship round – winners will be determined by round robin wins/losses, head to head to head results, and last stone draw results (see below).

The trophy presentations will take place following the 2 pm Sunday draw at Charlottetown. Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut rink, who won the boy’s section by default (they were the only entry) will be there to receive the boy’s trophy.

Draw and Schedule

u16drawTeams will be ranked following the round robin.

Rankings will be determined:

  1. By wins and losses of a team;
  2. If teams are tied, the head to head results of tied teams will be used;
  3. If teams are still tied, the cumulative last stone draw measurements (minus the highest draw) will break the tie.
