CORNWALL, P.E.I. — Cornwall Curling Club is welcoming a new manager this winter as the regular season prepares to kick off.

Travis Jones, of Kentucky, U.S., is taking over as manager of the club, which is looking forward to opening on Oct. 23 with the beginning of regular play.

Jones moved to the Island last year with his wife, Emilie, who was born in Ontario.

He said he is head over heels in love with the sport and is excited to take on his role at the Cornwall club.

“Curling at the club not only helped me learn how to curl but helped me feel like part of the community here on the Island,” said Jones. “I hope I can give back in this role by helping others experience that same sense of community.”

Ron Matters, a veteran ice maker, is busy applying the finishing touches to the new ice surface with the help of club volunteers.

Adults and teens interested in curling can register for the learn to curl clinics which begin Oct. 18, 19 and 20.

Returning curlers are also encouraged to sign up for league play.

The Little Rockers/Novice Learn to Curl event is also scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 23. Children ages 6-12 can try curling for free.

The event will go from 1-2:15 p.m.
