With the club having a few Saturday practice times through the rest of the season it creates new opportunities for our members – not only can you come out to throw a few stones, but your team can book an hour of practice and another team book an hour of practice before or after and you can play a game.
Just for fun, to make up a missed game in your league, etc.

We are going to do a Scottie’s Pick’Em Pool fundraiser for the upcoming Scott Tournament of Hearts.
Team Yogi’s (Ryan Giddens) once again is administrating the pool. Let’s see if someone can dethrone last year’s winner, Robbie Doherty.
NOTE: Creative teams names are great – but please put your real name in parenthesis!

For the 39th year, Kenmac once again supported a bonspiel at the Cornwall Curling Club. We can’t thank them enough for their continued support!
This year we had 18 teams participate and teams were placed in three pools.
In addition to the regular festivities this season we also added a Calcutta auction to help support the UPEI men’s and women’s curling teams.

Placing first in the event, with 48 points was Team MacDonald – Mark MacDonald, Garth Cudmore, Sharon Campbell, and Chris MacDougall.

Placing second with 44 points was Team Kelly – Doug Kelly, Donna Gill, Jamie Kelly, and Tareq abu Itham.

Also scoring 44 points, but placing third due to ends won difference was Team Milligan – Ellen Milligan, Mike MacDonald, Wanetta Whitmore, and Scott Ellis.

Placing fourth was Team Matthews – Gordon Matthews, Cathy Handren, Rick Milton, and Charlene MacQuarrie.

We had a three-way tie for the Lucky Loonie Award – with a coin toss seeing Team Neima “win” the prize!

In a new twist to our events – instead of awarding a 5th place prize we decided to have a Luck of the Draw Award for those teams not in the top 4 (so that every team in the event has an equal chance of winning a prize). The winning team of the Luck of the Draw Award was Team Irving.
The Calcutta Auction was won by Garth Cudmore, who bid on his own team and his confidence paid off with a prize of $241.50. Helen Smith bid on Team Kelly and her $10 bid turned into $161.50, while Donna Marie’s bid on Team Milligan earned her a prize of $80.50.
The UPEI Panthers raised $241.50 for their upcoming trip to AUS and the club received $80.50 as well.
Thank you to all who participated, our many volunteers, our bar staff and ice crew, to Hoagie Carmichael and his crew for the wonderful meal, and especially Kenmac Energy for once again making this event possible!
We had two teams participate in the George’s Deck Recovery spiel in Montague over the weekend and they did great!
Congrats!

We are once again entering a very busy portion of the club schedule that will impact various regular curling times, please note the changes below:
Friday, January 16 (Cornwall Cup)
Monday, January 19 (CRHS Group)
Friday, January 23 (Winter Jam Junior Bonspiel)
Sunday, January 25 (Winter Jam Junior Bonspiel)
Friday, January 30 (FREE Senior Bonspiel – may be opening up to larger group)
Thursday, February 5 (Roadbuilders Rental)

Hello all,
If you were looking to schedule practices for the week of January 18 through 24th that sheet is now posted.
Additionally, for the rest of the season, based on event/rental schedule, we will be having several Saturday practice times built into the schedule – a quick view of the schedule suggests we’ll have practice ice on the following Saturdays: 1/17, 1/31, 2/7, and possibly 3/14.
The Cornwall Cup, our club stick curling championship, will take place this Friday and Saturday with a battle between twelve teams for the chance to lift the coveted Cornwall Cup trophy!
Due to how the numbers work this year there will be a slight change in the playoff format.
As usual each division winner and runner-up will advance to the playoffs on Saturday.
However, the two highest scoring remaining teams will also advance as wild card teams.
Teams in the playoffs will be ranked within these categories: division winners, division runners-up, wild card teams.
Points are distributed as follows: 5 points for a win, 2.5 points for a tie, 0 points for a loss. 2 points for a won end, 1 point for a blanked end. Maximum point difference of 3 points.
Tiebreakers will be: win/loss record, head-to-head, total overall points, total points for ends, total ends won, points differential total (max of 3 per game), and then a coin toss.

The club will operate on it’s normal schedule tonight – see email sent to membership list for contact list information if you need it.

The club is partnering with the UPEI Men’s & Women’s Curling teams to put on a CALCUTTA AUCTION during the Kenmac Energy Bonspiel this weekend.
This type of auction is very popular out West but apparently is rather unknown in PEI (at least according to the lottery license office!)
You can place a bid to buy a team in the event (highest bid owns the team) and if they WIN, place SECOND, or finish THIRD in the event – then you win a portion of the prize pool!
BUT A TEAM THEN COME CHEER THEM ON TO VICTORY!
EVERYONE is eligible to participate – you don’t have to be in the event to bid!
Participants in the event can buy their own team or any team they aren’t playing against (due to lottery license rules)
The winning/highest bid on a team owns that team
Minimum bid is $10 per team. Teams that don’t get bought will belong to the curling club.
Any bid of $30+ will receive 2 tickets to a UPEI Panthers basketball or hockey game!
The prize pool will start at $200 and the successful bids will be added to the prize pool (Example: if there are 20 teams, and all teams have an owner, the prize pool would be at least $400)
There are 3 ways to submit a bid.
Bidding will close when the first game begins
Payout for 1st place team owner is 30% of the prize pool (minimum $60)
Second place is 20% and third is 10%.
30% goes to support the UPEI curling teams
10% goes to the Cornwall Curling Club
