Cornwall’s Hope rink playing in PEI Mixed semi-final tomorrow morning

The Rod MacDonald rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside and the Charlottetown Curling Complex edged the Cornwall Curling Club’s Bill Hope foursome by an 8-7 extra-end score to win this afternoon’s Page 1 vs 2 game, and advance to the 3 pm Monday final at the Curl PEI Provincial Mixed Curling Championship at the Montague Curling Club. Other members of the MacDonald team are third Kathy O’Rourke, second Mark O’Rourke, and lead Karen MacDonald.

Hope will now play in the semi-final, Monday at 10 am, against Charlottetown’s Jamie Newson. Newson stole a triple in the sixth end of an abbreviated game against the host club’s Donald Clarey, winning 9-3 in the Page 3 vs 4 game to advance to the semi.

Newson won qualifier #3 for the Page round this morning with an 8-7 win over clubmate Jamie Jackson, while Clarey got by Charlottetown’s Kevin Champion in an extra end, also by an 8-7 score, battling back from a 7-3 deficit after five ends with a deuce in six, and three consecutive steals to grab the final qualifying spot.

Hope took qualifier #1 on Saturday morning with a 9-7 win over Newson, stealing a final end deuce for the victory, while MacDonald won qualifier #2, also against Newson, by a 7-1 score Saturday afternoon.

The Monday morning semi-final winner will face MacDonald in the final. The winner of the final will advance to the Canadian Mixed, November 14-23 at the Rideau Curling Club in Ottawa.
