The last four of the eight qualifiers for the championship round were determined this morning at the Canadian Stick Curling Championship in Cornwall.

Cornwall’s own Paul Field and Roddie MacLean followed up their six-ender performance on Tuesday with a five ender today to beat New Brunswick’s Ken Grattan/Al Gauvreau twosome by a 7-4 score to qualify in the 5th spot.

Harold Cook and Marcel Lemire beat fellow Winnipeggers Ernie Oliver and Chris Sobkowich 6-2 to grab Qualifier #6.

Tom and Rae Campbell from Winnipeg beat Keith Bennett and Carl Duggan from the Lakeshore Curling Club in Lower Sackville NS  7-4 to qualify seventh.

The final qualifier went to the duo of Jack Prokopepz and Brad Moreau from Enderby BC, who  fought back from a 4-0 deficit after two ends, taking a single in three, and stealing a deuce in four and singles in the final two ends to edged out Cornwall’s Sterling Stratton/Ernie Stavert twosome by a 5-4 score.

On Tuesday, the Floyd Stewart/Gordon MacDonald duo from the Montague Curling Club edged the MacLean/Field team 7-6 to grab the first qualifying spot, and the the Carson and Miranne Shultz rink from Didsbury Alta. beat the Tom and Rae Campbell twosome from Winnipeg to take Qualifier #2.

Wednesday afternoon,  the defending champion rink of  Earl Stephenson and Warren Johnson from the St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg beat the host club’s Roddie MacLean/Paul Field duo by a 4-2 score to grab qualifier #3, and the Ted Lohnes/Dave MacDougall team from Truro and Yarmouth edged the Campbell twosome 5-4 to take Qualifier #4.

The eight qualifiers square off at 10:30 this morning, with the winners advancing to 1:15 semi-finals. The winners of the semis advance to the 3:15 pm final, and the losers will play for the bronze medal at the same time.
