Defending champs, two host club teams, and a Fredericton NB rink advance to Canadian Stick finals

The host Cornwall Curling Club rinks of Ruth Stavert/Eileen Blanchard (Women’s Division), and  Roddie MacLean/Paul Field (Open Division) both won their respective semi-finals this afternoon, and have advanced to the 3:15 pm finals of the Canadian Stick Curling Championships. MacLean/Field edged Montague’s Floyd Stewart/Gordon MacDonald rink 2-1 in a low-scoring match, while Stavert/Blanchard, with the help of a five point third end, beat Eleanor Murray and Irene King from Fredericton NB 7-5.

Also advancing were the defending champs, the Earl Stephenson/Warren Johnston twosome from the St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg, who beat the Carson and Miranne Shultz team from Didsbury Alberta 7-5 in the other Open Division semi.

The second Cornwall duo in the women’s semis -Shirley Lank and Mary Plamondon , lost their Women’s semi-final game 8-2 to the Jean Marie Denning/Alye Lou McCarthy rink from Fredericton
