The Kruger/Scotties logos are on the ice, and the “traditional” Christmas flood is done, thanks to icemen Lance Lowther, Al MacCormac, and Bob MacWilliams, and our new “Jet Ice” as preparations continue for the Scotties provincial women’s curling championship, which takes place January 27-31 at our Club, with the winners earning a big trip to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts, February 19-27, 12 kilometres away at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.
Entry deadline for the PEI Scotties is Dec. 30. Six teams have signed up to-date, including the defending champion and Canadian silver medallist Kathy O’Rourke rink, the Suzanne Birt team who were runners up at the recent Hub City Shootout in Moncton (Birt is also a five-time provincial women’s champ and a World Junior champ), along with the reigning PEI senior women’s champs, the Shirley Berry team from Cornwall and Charlottetown, the Donna Butler rink from Cornwall, the Tammy Dewar foursome from Montague, and the Kim Dolan team from Charlottetown. Dolan, an eight time PEI women’s champ, is backed up by six-time champ Rebecca Jean (MacPhee) MacDonald at third. MacDonald also played third on this year’s Canadian Mixed championship rink.
It’s going to be an exciting competition!
