The brother and sister duo of Alex and Lauren MacFadyen picked up a pair of wins on Sunday over their Silver Fox Curling clubmates, the defending champion husband and wife team of Ed and Jenny White to capture the PEI Mixed Doubles Curling Championship at the Cornwall Curling Club.

Each team had won one of the three qualifying games for the Championship Round of the Modified Triple Knockout draw, with the third qualifier on the line Sunday morning. The Sunday “C” Qualifier was a closely-fought match, with the MacFadyens stealing a single in the final end for a 9-7 win.
This gave the MacFadyens a “double life” in the two-game championship round against their Silver Fox clubmates, meaning they would win the title with a victory in either of the two games, while the Whites would have had to win both to repeat as champions.
Team MacFadyen then won the first Championship game by a 6-4 score, with the help of a 3th-end triple, and a 5-2 lead after four ends, making a second game unnecessary.

The MacFadyens won the “A” Qualifier with a win over the Amy Spence and Jack MacFadyen team from Cornwall on Friday, with Team White winning the “B” over Team MacFadyen on Saturday. Both teams then won their respective “C” semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, to set up the “C” Qualifier match Sunday morning.

Team MacFadyen will now advance to the 2021 Home Hardware Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, March 18-25 at the Markin MacPhail Centre, in Calgary, AB.
Seven teams, four from the host Cornwall Curling Club, the two finalists from the Silver Fox in Summerside, and one from Crapaud began play on Friday in the PEI event.
