Morning Daytime Curling: A Return to Play Update

Good Afternoon Morning- Daytime Curlers!
We hope that this note finds everyone safe and doing well…

While some of you have been participating in the “Members’ Ice Time’ for some practice, we have missed many here at the club ….and we have certainly missed the life that game play brings to our club here at 29 Cornwall Road.

Our ‘Return to Play’ team (lead by Chair Peter Murdoch) and our Daytime Committee Chair and ‘Return to Play’ Committee Member Paul Durant, have been working very hard with our partners in recreation and CPHO, to be able to have some sort of game play.

We feel we have found such solution that is based on, what Curl PEI, defines as “PODS” of 20 curlers.

Hang in there with us as we explain ….

What this means is:

We can continue a “drop-in” format, but have arranged all participants into two groups of 40.

Within these each group of 40 there will be two PODS of 20.

GROUP 1 will have POD ‘A’ and POD ‘B’ :
will curl morning drop in on Mondays and Thursdays.

Group 2 will have POD ‘C’ and POD ‘D’ :
will curl morning drop in on Tuesdays and Fridays.

You should receive an email sometime today to advise you which group and POD you are in.
If you have been assigned to GROUP 1 (PODS ‘A’ and ‘B’) :
This means you will curl on Monday and Thursday mornings (draw time 10am to 12noon as usual) ONLY.

If you have been assigned to GROUP 2 (PODS ‘C’ and ‘D’ ):
This means you will curl on Tuesday and Friday mornings (draw time 10am to 12noon as usual) ONLY.

You will not be able to curl with anyone outside of your POD until we return to “regular” club play. The goal will be to make 4 teams in each POD at each drop in day to play against each other. If you have more than 16 drop in people show up in your POD, the extra people will sub in, as we always have done.

The drop in format will continue: in that different teams will be formed each session within your POD only. (Draw Masters will have discs in baskets accordingly and will work with you to prepare the draws every morning.)

Upon arrival…

Mondays and Thursdays
POD A will proceed to section 1 in the clubhouse – round tables by the fireplace. They will curl on sheets #1 and #2.

POD B will proceed to section 2 in the clubhouse- rectangle tables in front of the windows. They will curl on sheets #3 and #4.

Tuesdays and Fridays
POD C will proceed to section 1 in the clubhouse – round tables by the fireplace. They will curl on sheets #1 and #2.

POD D will proceed to section 2 in the clubhouse- rectangle tables in front of the windows. They will curl on sheets #3 and #4.

DrawMasters will then compose a draw for each POD.

We recognize this may be a bit confusing. (Our heads are a little spiny too!) , but please know that once you show up , it will be clearer…and easy peasy! Just show up on your delegated day (see your email) at 9:30 or so and we will go from there!!
Together we will get through this.

Our Club remains committed to the health and safety of our curlers….
All curlers will be required to wear masks at all time, if not sitting while eating or drinking or Curling. Curlers must social distance at all times. Curlers must sit at the table number delegated to the sheet of ice they are curling on.

If you have any questions , please do not hesitate to drop an email to the club:
