While conditions in many locations are improving there are still several spots that are bad and as the ice tech said when going in “where it’s bad it’s very bad” – so in consultation with the board president and the Tuesday drawmaster we have made the decision to play it safe and stay closed for the entirety of Tuesday, February 24th.
That means:
Due to current conditions the club will remain closed until at least noon today with a further update later this morning about the rest of the days scheduled
The club will close at 4pm today.
That means:

Congratulations to Ella Lenentine and Jack MacFadyen on their victory this weekend in the PEI Mixed Doubles Championship.
They will be representing PEI at the national event March 21-27 in Surrey, BC.
Like any community organization, the Cornwall Curling Club would not be able to function without volunteers – the volunteer efforts of a great many Board members past and present have made our Club what it is today.

Current and former Board Members of the Cornwall Curling Club present at the 40th Anniversary Celebration a few years ago – just a few of the many volunteers over the years!
To continue that strong tradition and pass it down to the next generations, we need to continue to have Club members step up and take a place of leadership on our Board of Directors – serving as the lead volunteers of the Club.
This year we have several Board members rotating off the Board due to their terms ending or changing life situations and are seeking to find five to seven willing volunteers to fill our empty seats.
The Club bylaws state that: The affairs of the Club shall be conducted by the Board of Directors, composed of twelve (12) Directors elected by voting Members.
Any adult member in good standing is eligible to be elected and each director is elected to a three-year term.
The Board typically meets once a month (Sunday mornings at present) for 2-3 hours, as well as being involved in communication via email and text occasionally.
They help guide and direct the affairs of the Club and give direction to the Club Manager and Ice Technician as needed. They help deal with any situations or issues that arise and try to look to the future to help the Club continue to be sustainable and a place for social interaction and curling fun.
While many things are discussed/decided in the general meetings, the Board also has several committees, including:
Committee assignments are ideally aligned with your interests and strengths as well as filling gaps/needs that exist within the Club and Board.
The Board has a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer – and the immediate Past President serves on the Board as well.
If you would like more information about serving on the Board or like to put your name forward please reach out to either current President Mike Rouleau, Club Manager Travis Jones, or any current Board member.
There is a board meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 15th and if you are interested in attending to see what they are like we’d love to have you!
We would also like to thank our current Board members for serving.
Mike Rouleau – President
Bryan Sutherland – Vice President/Bylaws
Debbie Rhodenhizer – Facilities
Susan McInnis – Treasurer
Kim Nickerson – Past President
Cody Whynot – Fundraising
Sue Pollard – Volunteers, Membership & Draws
Allan Stefanik – Bonspiels & Socials, Daytime Representative
Chase MacMillan – Secretary, Curl PEI Representative
Chris Montigny – Human Resources
Carolyn Murphy-Haight – Member At-Large
Sorry – we’ve been very busy at the club the last few weeks and I haven’t done a great job keeping everyone posted about the 50/50.
We’ve now had four straight weeks of rollovers where someone’s name was drawn but they weren’t signed in for the week (or the year).
That means next week the pot will be at least $620!
You don’t want to miss out – be sure to drop in your toonie.

The club and its members would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of Anna MacKinley – both Anna and Ron have both been associated with the club in various ways throughout the years.
It is with sadness, great love and an appreciation for a life well lived that the family announces the peaceful passing of Anna Marie MacKinley (née Clarkin) at the QEH on Friday, February 13th, 2026 (age 77) with family by her side.
?Anna was the loyal and devoted wife to Ron, cherished mother to Joanne (Eddie Curran), Jamie (Andrea Campbell) and Jeff (Elise MacVarish), loving grandmother to Lauren and Alex Curran, Alexa, Breanne, and Corbin MacKinley.
?She was also the treasured sister and best friend to Marion (Fred) Younker.
?Anna is also survived by her sister-in-law, Irene (Karl) Duncan; her brother-in-law, Brian (Dora) MacKinley; her daughter-in-law, Shauna MacKinley;Corbin’s mother, Fallon McLaine and her faithful golden retriever, Brodie, who never left her side.
?She was the much-loved aunt to Karrie (Grant) Boswall, Kurt (Jen) Duncan, Katie (Mitch) Jollimore, Colin (Krystle) Younker, Mary Beth (Jason) Malone, Maria (Nick) VanKampen, and Laura (Ryan) Deagle.
?She was predeceased by her parents, Norbert “Bert” and Catherine Clarkin (née McQuillan); in-laws, John and Mildred MacKinley (née Seller) ; brother-in-law, Johnny MacKinley; and infant granddaughter, Anna Marie Curran.
?Anna was the heart of our family, the gentle woman whose stitches always mended and kept the family quilt together. She was a woman whose love, faith, and quiet strength shaped the next generations. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She gave endlessly of herself, offering wisdom, encouragement, and a helping hand to all.
?As a grandmother, she created magical moments for all of her grandchildren that they will cherish forever. These included cottage weekend getaways, New Year’s Eve themed celebrations, outdoor Easter egg hunts, family dinners, beach days, PD day outings, family vacations, gazebo nights and Alberta visits. She attended and travelled to many places to watch every soccer, hockey, and baseball game that she could. She attended many school band concerts as well as her grandson’s Rock Band concerts.
?Anna found such joy in life’s simple and beautiful gifts. As an avid gardener, she loved to spend time outdoors. She loved to travel and always embraced new places with curiosity and gratitude. She was a writer and a passionate genealogist. Through her writing, she gave us beautiful stories, memories, and the rich history of her family. She loved her backyard gazebo, going to Emyvale, running her Bed and Breakfast, riding her John Deere lawnmower, decorating her home for every holiday and hosting family get-togethers.
Anna loved her career path and formed many friendships while working first as a young legal secretary, then as a Civil Servant in Child Welfare, Executive Council and finally finishing her career working at the Supreme Court. During her retirement, she graciously welcomed guests to her Bed and Breakfast, which she operated called “Thistle and Shamrock.” Anna also enjoyed supporting her husband, Ron, during his many years in provincial politics.
She was a true friend and loved being part of her writing, cards and stitch groups as well as being part of the CWL and St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Everywhere she went, she spread joy through her kindness. Family was her greatest blessing and proudest accomplishment. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, faith, and positivity that will always be remembered.
?We are all so lucky to have been loved by her.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral home, with visitation on Wednesday, February 18th, from 4:00-7:00 pm. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, February 19th at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi church in Cornwall. The funeral will be live streamed and can be accessed at the following link: Remembering Anna. Should you require assistance in accessing the livestream, please call 1-877-895-2739 for support.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Reid, Dr. Zimmer, Dr. Champion, Dr. Holland, Dr. Blangdon, Dr. Jain, the pharmacy staff, the caring nurses of the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre and ER, QEH staff, and Island EMS.
Donations in memory of Anna can be made to The QEH PEI Cancer Treatment Centre or the St. Ann’s Cemetery Fund, Emyvale.
We’ve had a coveted 5pm practice slot open up today – if you are interested in taking it please email the manager
Have you ever received an email from the website notifying you of a new post and replied to it? (via the subscription service)
Apparently a background setting was sending those emails to donotreply@wordpress.com instead of my email!
Fortunately a member forwarded me an email she had attempted to send me that I didn’t receive RE: a volunteer opportunity and with that email I was able to see what was happening and do some research.
So, if you have replied to one of those emails and wondered why I didn’t respond, it’s because I wasn’t receiving them!!
However, moving forward I should receive them.
I just received a funny reply to my “TEST – Ignore me, Travis is just running a test on a website feature” post which confirms they are now being directed to the correct address!
As a reminder, we are in a busy period for the club with multiple schedule changes over the next few weeks due to rentals and a provincial event. The changes include:
