Scotties Pick’Em Results

What a finish to the CCC Scotties Pick ‘Em Pool!

Congrats to Team Yogi’s (Ryan).

Ryan took the underdog Kerri Einarson in the final to vault 3 places up the leaderboard claiming the title.

Robbie Lenentine also rode Kerri Einarson Sunday night, putting himself in the money finishing 2nd.

Third place came down to a tiebreaker between Jack MacFadyen and Paul MacCormack. Both players finished with identical records of 76 points. The tiebreaker was “How many points will the Scotties Champion score during the entire spiel?” Team Einarson scored 99 points. Jack chose wisely with 109 points, while Paul went with 69.

Hope to see you in the Brier Pick’Em Pool in March.

Practices Cancelled – Monday, February 2nd

The plant repair took a little longer than we hoped so the ice will not be ready for practices at 4pm or 5pm today.

The ice maker is confident things will be good to go for our Monday Mixed and Monday Commercial leagues this evening.

Winter Jam Wrap Up

The 2nd Annual Winter Jam Junior Bonspiel was a huge success this weekend!

We had 24 teams – including 15 from off Island participate in three divisions – that’s 48 games in a very limited amount of time.

While I wish I could say everything went off without a hitch – the ice plant decided it was just too cold out on Saturday morning (while unfortunate, I totally understand ice plant it was brrrrrr out there!). However, thanks to our friends at Lowther’s Refrigeration and our ice tech Ron we were back up and running in about three hours and still managed to get all the draws in that day!

Thank you to Lowther’s for their quick response!

During the delay our teams were challenged to create mascots and they were awesome! Congrats to Team Burwash for the win!

On Saturday afternoon during ice maintenance time, we hosted Curlmaster – a gameshow based on the British TV show Taskmaster.

Robbie Doherty hosted as we watch clips of three of our junior curlers doing previously recorded “tasks” of a ridiculous nature.

In the end Lily Whalley (Cornwall) squeaked past Tavin Nicholson (Summerside) and Kolin Beaton (Cornwall) to claim the coveted Curlmaster trophy – which was modeled after Robbie’s face.

As soon as editing is completed the live show and pre-recorded clips will be posted on our YouTube page for all to see!

Tavin Nicholson, Kolin Beaton, Champion Lily Whalley, Robbie Doherty, and Travis Jones

While things happening off the ice were fun, the real focus of the weekend was in the ice rink where we had great competitive play and good sportsmanship.

In the U15 Division the playoff teams were (in seeded order):  Team Patel (Oromocto, NB), Team Demont (Moncton, NB), Team Berrigan (Timberlea, NS) and Team Brothers (Montague, PE).

Team Berrigan won the final over Team Brothers, with Team Patel taking bronze over Team Demont.

U15 Division Champions – Team Berrigan

U15 Division Runners Up – Team Brothers

U15 Division Third Place – Team Patel

In the Red (U18) Division the playoff teams were (in seeded order): Team Brown (Saint John, NB), Team Smith (Moncton, NB), Team Haight (Cornwall, PE), and Team Myers (Cornwall, PE).

Team Haight won the final over Team Brown, with Team Smith taking bronze over Team Myers.

Red Division Champions – Team Haight

Red Division Runners Up – Team Brown

Red Division Third Place – Team Smith

In the Yellow (U18/20) Division the playoff teams were (in seeded order):  Team Carter (Oromocto, NB), Team Bruce (Cornwall, PE), Team Pugsley (Moncton, NB), and Team Hanson (Fredericton/Oromocto, NB).

Team Bruce won the final over Team Hanson, with Team Carter taking bronze over Team Pugsley.

Yellow Division Champions – Team Bruce

Yellow Division Runners Up – Team Hanson

Yellow Division Third Place – Team Carter

Congrats to all the medalists and thanks to everyone who came and made this such a great event.

We greatly appreciate the patience shown by the teams and crowd during the delay and are grateful to those who helped get things back on track afterwards.

We look forward to another great Winter Jam next season and wish each of these teams a great rest of their curling season! If I counted correctly, I believe five of the teams here will be playing at the national U18 event in Timmins in a few weeks!

More photos from the weekend are below!
