Thank You to the Kin Club of Charlottetown

The Kin Club of Charlottetown meets in our board room several times a season and this year donated a brand new TV and bracket so our board room can have audio/video presentation options.

This will come in handy for training sessions at clinics and for team discussions – as well as being another entertainment option at the club.

Thanks so much!

Day 3: U15 RockFest Atlantic Review

Sunday was another busy day at the U15 RockFest Atlantic hosted in partnership with Curling Canada, Curl PEI, and Crapaud Curling Club.

The day started at Crapaud with Golden RockFest – a series of Triples Curling games between the Red Group and the White Group, with the Red Group squeaking out a narrow 1-point victory after 16 mini-games.

The event then transitioned to Cornwall for the Skill Curling Finals – where the top 15 (plus ties) scorers in both the male and female divisions competed.  Cornwall had four athletes in the Finals – Landon Seaman, Aaron Haight, Ephraim Fraser, and Norah MacKinnon.

Cornwall’s very own Landon Seaman won the gold in the male division with a score of 26! Rounding out the men’s division was Seth Gillispie and Elliot Woodhouse.

The women’s top three were Abigal Smelser, Marissa Gushue, and Ivy Hebb.

Rockfest, Skills Awards

A special thanks goes out to all the staff, ice technicians, and volunteers who made this weekend possible.  We had over 40 volunteers from our club sign up to help with everything from registration to coaching to scoring the competition – and that doesn’t include the ones that helped as they saw the need throughout the weekend from taking trash out to helping set tables and chairs back up afterwards.  Thanks so much!

Here’s a link to the event photos – shot by PEI’s own Mike Schut Photography

Day 2: U15 RockFest Atlantic Review

The 2026 RockFest Atlantic event which the club is hosting in partnership with Curling Canada, Curl PEI, and the Crapaud Community Curling Club continued yesterday with the athletes participating in a scored skills competition which tested their ability to throw two variations of six shots (Hit & Stay, Draw, Hit & Roll, Peel, and Draw-Around). Scores for each shot ranged from 0-3 points on each shot based on a set criteria.

The Top 15 (plus ties) male and Top 15 (plus ties) female curlers advanced to the Skills Final which is taking place now at the club.

Three male and one female curlers from Cornwall/PEI advanced to the finals!  Congratulations to Landon Seaman, Aaron Haight, Ephraim Fraser, and Norah MacKinnon.

We are so proud of each and every curler who participated in the event this weekend and hope everyone not only learned a lot, but had a blast.

Day 1: U15 RockFest Atlantic Review

Curling Canada, Curl PEI, Crapaud Community Curling Club, and Cornwall Curling Club are hosting the 2026 U15 RockFest Atlantic event this weekend and the first day was a great success.

Ninety-six curlers from across Atlantic Canada came together in PEI to learn valuable skills from some of Atlantic Canada’s best athletes and coaches in several on and off ice sessions.

Everyone came together in Crapaud for the opening ceremonies and a pizza party last night as well.

Today will be filled with Skills Curling – each curler will throw two variations of six shots (Hit & Stay, Draw, Hit & Roll, Peel, and Draw-Around) and be scored between 0-3 points on each shot based on a set criteria.

The top 16 male and top 16 female finishers from today’s Qualifier Round will advance to tomorrows Skills Curling Finals – where they will once again throw the same shots.

In addition to the Skills competition, the curlers will also play Triples Curling tonight and participate in the Golden RockFest event tomorrow.

Condolences to the family and friends of Michelle Ledgerwood

The club and its members would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michelle Ledgerwood who passed away recently.

Michelle is the wife of club member Sean Ledgerwood.

Obituary: https://www.belvederefh.com/obituary/Michelle-Ledgerwood

Michelle Lynn Ledgerwood, a loving mother and wife, devoted daycare and kindergarten teacher, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at the age of 55 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 11, 1970, Michelle had a gift for nurturing young hearts and curious minds, devoting her 30+ year career in the daycare and kindergarten fields to ensuring her classroom was a place of warmth, laughter, learning, and unconditional kindness. Known for her patience, creativity, and unwavering belief in every child, Michelle shaped the lives of hundreds of students.

Outside the classroom, Michelle found joy in spending time with her family, travelling, and relaxing on the beach. She had an infectious smile, a gentle sense of humor, and a remarkable ability to make others feel comforted and understood.

Michelle is survived by her loving husband, Sean Ledgerwood; her children, Kaitlyn (Graham Ching) and Emma; her parents, Robert and Claudette McNeill (Gallant); sister, Janice McNeill; mother-in-law Ann Ledgerwood; father-in-law Allan Ledgerwood (Marie dec.); brother-in-law Brad Ledgerwood (Monica Alonso); extended family and the many colleagues, former students, and dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life will be held in the Reception Centre on Monday, March 23rd from 4-7 pm for friends and family to drop in and share a story or two.

Donations in memory of Michelle may be made to the PEI Cancer Treatment Centre through the QEH Foundation or to the Canadian Red Cross.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Cancer Treatment Centre, the Provincial Palliative Care Centre, and the many other medical care professionals that helped Michelle on her journey.

Michelle’s legacy lives on in every child who learned to believe in themselves because she believed in them first. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered—always.

Club Hosting Curling Canada’s U15 RockFest Atlantic this weekend!

The club is extremely excited to be partnering with Curling Canada, Curl PEI, and the Crapaud Community Curling Club to host the 2026 Curling Canada U15 RockFest Atlantic event this Friday through Sunday.

We will be welcoming 96 curlers from all across the Atlantic provinces!

On Friday the curlers will participate in both on and off ice clinics led by amazing coaches – including Cornwall’s own Lauren Lenentine.

Saturday the curlers will hit the ice to throw a series of specific shots and be scored on their accuracy – as well as participating in some Triples Curling action.

Sunday the group will start out in Crapaud for a special Golden RockFest event before the RockFest Competition Finals, which will take place in Cornwall from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

It’s sure to be an exciting weekend for all involved!

Events like this don’t happen without a lot of help and we appreciate the guidance and leadership we have received from Curling Canada and Curl PEI, as well as the many individuals who have volunteered their time to help coach and score.

REMINDER: Red & Yellow Registration is OPEN!

UPDATE: Please register by TUESDAY so we have time to prepare the draw!

It’s hard to believe, but the season is quickly approaching it’s end.

While that makes me sad, it does mean it’s almost time for my favourite event of the season – the annual Red & Yellow Closing Bonspiel!

Registration is now open for the event which will run on Friday, March 27th and Saturday, March 28th.

If you are a new member (or have never participated) you will be assigned to a colour based on the need to balance the draw – once you are assigned a colour (with rare exceptions) you remain on that team every year!

In addition to a great weekend of curling, fun, and lots of laughter and playful ribbing – we also enjoy a nice banquet to wrap up the event and the season. Once again this year we’ll be having Sizzler’s BBQ.

NOTE:  Due to the Civic Centre schedule we’ll be having the banquet following the final draw this year – beginning at 7:30pm.

The Little Rockers, Novice, and Juniors will be doing their own events in the next couple of weeks and the stick curlers will have their annual Red & Yellow event on Thursday, March 26th during the day.

For the weekend event, you’ll play one game on Friday, one game Saturday morning, and one game Saturday afternoon, with a banquet Saturday evening.

For those curlers who do daytime, we’ll have a daytime draw on Friday at 1:00pm.

For evening curlers you’ll play either the 6:30pm or 8:15pm draw on Friday.

Everyone will then play a Saturday morning draw at either 8:30am, 10:15am, or 12:00pm – then play an afternoon draw at either 2:30pm, 4:15pm, or 6:00pm.

The games are 6-ends and use a skins scoring format with values increasing each end and each draw – which typically leads to the winner of the event coming down to the last draw, sometimes even the last few shots!

Last year Yellow reclaimed their rightful place as champions but Red will be gunning to knock us off the throne again this year – be sure to sign up today!

RED & YELLOW SPIEL & BANQUET
MARCH 27-28
COST:  $40

RED & YELLOW BANQUET ONLY
MARCH 28 at 7:30PM
COST: $20

RED & YELLOW STICK EVENT
MARCH 26
COST: $10

NOTE: This event is open to all members.  Non-members will be permitted if there are open slots remaining.

Condolences to the family and friends of Mark McLane

The club and its members would like to express our condolences to the family and friends of MLA Mark McLane, who passed away yesterday.

Mark has been a sponsor of the club for several years, would often give us a heads up about potential grants or government programs that might benefit the club, and mentioned several times his memories of the club over the years through his mother’s involvement at the club.

CBC Article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-health-minister-mark-mclane-obituary-9.7132782

“Prince Edward Island lost a great Islander today — but far more importantly, a family lost a great husband and father, and so many Islanders lost a truly great friend,” Lantz said in a published statement Tuesday.

“Mark McLane was the kind of person people gravitated toward. He was someone you could always count on for a laugh when you needed it, for thoughtful advice when things got complicated, and for his presence when it mattered most,” the premier said.

McLane was first elected to the provincial legislature in a November 2021 byelection, as the MLA for District 16 Cornwall-Meadowbank. The next year, he joined then-premier Dennis King’s cabinet, serving as finance minister.

McLane was re-elected in the 2023 general election. Soon after, he became the province’s health and wellness minister.

More recently, McLane was known to have been dealing with a health issue, and provincial Finance Minister Jill Burridge took on the health portfolio in an acting role in January, followed by cabinet minister Cory Deagle the next month.

A biographical page for McLane published on the P.E.I. Legislative Assembly’s website says he was previously the executive director of Golf P.E.I. from 2012 to 2021. He was also a past president of the IT company iWave Information Systems.
