Berry loses 8-4 to Dolan in Scotties semi

The Kim Dolan rink from the host Charlottetown Curling Complex doubled the Shirley Berry foursome from the Cornwall and Silver Fox curling clubs by an 8-4 score in tonight’s semi-final to advance to the 2 pm Sunday final against unbeaten Kathy O’Rourke, also from the host club, at the PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Women’s Curling Championship.

In tonight’s game, Dolan, who led 4-3 after five ends, blanked the sixth and scored a triple in the seventh to lead 7-3. Berry, a former Seniors champ, and Dolan traded singles in eight and nine, and Berry was unable to recover from the 4 point lead.

Dolan was runner-up last year and has 9 provincial women’s championships to her credit, while O’Rourke is a six-time winner, and was Canadian Scotties semi-finalist in 2010. Other members of the Dolan rink are third Rebecca Jean MacDonald, second Sinead Dolan , and lead Michala Robison, with alternate Jackie Reid  and coach John Likely.

O’Rourke’s team includes Robyn Green, who throws 4th stones,  Meaghan Hughes, who throws third, and lead Tricia Affleck,, with alternate Stefanie Clark and coach  Peter MacDonald. Dolan and Berry advanced to the semi after finishing round robin play earlier today with 2-2 records, while Lisa Jackson and last year’s champion Suzanne Birt went 1-3.

The winner of Sunday afternoon’s final will advance to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts, February 1-9 at the Maurice Richard Arena, Montreal, QC.
