Blue grabs the lead after Junior Red vs. Blue event!

Another super fun Red and Blue event took place on the weekend right here at 29 Cornwall Road as we hosted the Junior Curling Division of the Red and Blue Club-wide points race!

Entering the Saturday event the Red Team was up by ten points after the Little Rockers, Novice, and Stick Curling Divisions. The score was RED = 78 BLUE= 68 to start the day!

However, the Junior event belonged to Team Blue, who earned 40.5 points to  Red’s 16.5!!

The current Red and Blue points race stands as Red 94.50 Blue 108.50, leading into this Friday’s Red and Blue Daytime Division and the Red and Blue Finale on Friday night and Saturday!

Our curlers all enjoyed a morning 6-end game followed by a super yummy pizza lunch that we purchased from our friends at Sam’s Restaurant, along with some Gatorade and bottled water!

Our Event Co-Chair, Jennifer Lenentine,  also brought along some delicious homemade goodies~  including some Red and Blue cupcakes for the curlers to enjoy!
Thank you, Jen!

A BIG thank you to all of the junior curlers who participated. This was a single entry event where we mixed up all of our curlers with other junior curlers and then matched them with mentors….

It was so wonderful to see the older more experienced curlers, playing with our newer junior curlers…! There were 28 Junior curlers (11-21) who participated!

We send a thank you to our ‘Junior Mentors’ Rachel MacLean and Sydney Howatt, who really understand how important it is to give back to the game they love. Much gratitude to our other club mentors Craig Savill, Mark MacDonald, Jeanine Bodner, Tyler MacKenzie, Amber Robb, Landon Warder, Katie Shaw, and Colin MacKenzie.

Many of you shared that you had a great time too! Thank you to Mitch O’Shea for committing to support the event as well. You were missed!

We overheard some very special conversations between mentors and our juniors on Saturday…
Stories shared about similar shots they had made in past, shared tournaments play and experience, strategy chats…and some jokes and banter. While on the outside this event seemed to have been a couple of fun curling games…but below the surface, it was so much more. It was about our young juniors showing their skills and talent to some experienced club curlers and leaders who may not always get a chance to see them play…. and some mentors letting our junior curlers know that they are here for them…cheering them on as they carry on in the sport that they also love!
This event was about community and about connection.

Some of our other invited club mentors were not able to attend, however, they sent along some awesome swag to give away to our juniors!  Thank you to Adam Casey, Lauren Lenentine, Kathy and Mark O’Rourke, Team Birt, and to Craig Savill too! Also, a thank you to Alison Griffin, who curls with our friends at the Summerside Club who sent along some great shirts! And to Competitive and Elite Curling Coach Peter Gallant for a very cool shirt!

A sincere thank you to Jennifer and Robbie Lenentine who were Co-Chairs of this event. Thank you to Robbie for composing the draw and consultation leading up to the event, and to Jennifer for hosting the day and leading the event on Saturday. A special thank you to Heather Gauthier who is always ready to jump in wherever needed!

A genuine thank you to Club Member Peter Murdoch, who is an absolute volunteer rock star, who prepared the ice for us for the event,  and to Tyler MacKenzie who was our lunchtime maintenance support!

These Red and Blue events are exciting and really lots of fun… (a game of curling ping pong even broke out!), but also heartwarming and important! A club-wide event connecting all our leagues and programs with one shared club spirit!

We cant wait to see what happens on Friday and Saturday!
