Congrats to Team PEI (Team Watts)

Cornwall’s own Team Watts (aka Team PEI) had an amazing week in Winnipeg at the Granite Curling Club coming home with an impressive 4th place finish in the event, boasting a 5-1 record in round robin play!

They represented the Island and the club well – great job guys!

The team is made up of Dennis Watts, Erik Brodersen, Shane MacDonald, Andrew MacDougall, and alternate Anderson MacDougall.

Adopt a Panther!

Did you know the UPEI men’s and women’s curling team are members of the Cornwall Curling Club and practicing out of our facility this season?

The UPEI Athletics and Recreation Adopt a Panther Program is designed to provide financial assistance to the UPEI Panthers curling team and student-athletes.

In the past, student-athletes and their families have borne most of the cost of participation, but YOU can help reduce those costs by joining the Adopt a Panther Program.

The Adopt a Panther Program keeps you connected to UPEI Athletics and Recreation, and the curling team.

Donor benefits include:

  • Tax receipt for full donation
  • Direct contact with your adopted Panther
  • The satisfaction of knowing you’ve made a difference

Congratulations to Team Bishop – 2025 Masters Plus Champions!

The club hosted the 13th Annual Masters Plus Bonspiel this past Thursday and Friday.

We had six teams from away, a team from Summerside, and nine Cornwall teams.

We had TWO undefeated teams – Team Bishop and Team MacAulay both had 4-0 records worth 12 points each.  However, Team Bishop won the tiebreaker based on LSD by 26.1mm.

Team Bishop (Bill Bishop, Shelley Ebbett, Tom O’Rourke, and Marlis O’Rourke) each received Red Shores Brunch vouchers.

Team MacAulay (Ian MacAulay, Blair Weeks, Mark O’Rourke, Danny Kneabone, and Mike Dillon) will receive Ultimate Dining Cards.

We also had a three way tie for third place – with Teams Canfield (Pugwash, NS), Team Murdoch, and Team Braedley (Sackville, NB) all finishing with 2-0-1 records worth 7 points.  However, based on the head-to-head tiebreakers Team Canfield claimed third, Team Murdoch fourth, and Team Braedley fifth.

Special thanks goes to Rodd Hotels and Resorts for providing a wonderful event rate and a free night stay prize, Mel’s for providing gift cards, and Red Shores for providing brunch passes.

We would also like to thank Paul Dorsey, Linda Fairhurst, Debbie Rhodenhizer, Gloria Turner, and Ken Harrott for helping organize the event and the many volunteers who filled various roles throughout the event.

NOTE: Many people asked this week what Masters Plus means: at least three of the team members must be Masters age (60+) and one player can be between 55-59.

Best of luck to both teams!

Masters Plus Draw Schedule

We are excited to once again be hosting the Masters Plus bonspiel at the club this Thursday and Friday, November 20-21.

We have six off-Island teams, a team from our sister club in Summerside, and nine Cornwall teams this year.

In addition to the great curling, this event provides a great time for curlers around the Maritimes to connect and socialize.

Special thanks to the Masters Plus Committee of Paul Dorsey, Ken Harrott, Linda Fairhurst, Gloria Turner, Debbie Rhodenhizer for once again helping this event come together!

PRACTICE:
There will be a short practice time before Thursday morning draws only. Both teams will share the ice at the same time (like GSOC practices). Red rocks throw the in turn, yellow rocks throw the out turn. Each player will throw one rock down and back.

LAST STONE DRAW (LSD):
The second tiebreaker for event placement will be based on a pre-tournament LSD at the end of the practice. Skips will throw the LSD, sweepers for throwing team are allowed, opponents cannot sweep.

COIN TOSS FOR HAMMER:
A coin toss will be used for hammer before each game. Please toss using the coin containers on the tables inside the club lounge before heading onto ice to save time.

ROCKS:
The highest team number (1-16) gets yellow rocks, lower number gets red rocks.

EVENT SCORING:
We will be using win, loss, and tie records to determine event placement. A win is worth 3 points, a tie is worth 1 point, a loss is worth 0 points.
Event tiebreakers: 1st: Head-to-Head (if applicable), 2nd: LSD, 3rd: Coin toss

TIME LIMIT:
Due to the tight nature of the schedule each game is limited to 2 hours. A buzzer will sound when 15 minutes remain. You may finish the end you are
playing but cannot start another end. NOTE: An end officially starts when the first rock has been thrown, not when the previous end finishes.

PRIZES:
Prizes will be awarded to the TOP FOUR teams – additionally, we will have a few door prize drawings throughout the event.
We want to thank our sponsors for their generosity.

FOOD/DRINK:
We will provide a hot lunch on Thursday, while Friday’s lunch will feature chili and a roll.
Each curler gets one drink ticket included in their packet.
