It’s safe to say that Nova Scotia Curling continues to bring its best to the Village Green Club Curling Cashspiel. For the third consecutive year, a Blue Nose rink has claimed the championship, and for the second straight year, the title heads back to the Sydney Curling Club.

Team LeFort, representing the Sydney Curling Club, went undefeated in round-robin play with a perfect 4–0 record before defeating PEI’s Conner Bruce in the semifinal and Eddie MacKenzie in the championship final. The winning team features Skip Sebastien LeFort, Vice Todd Mercer, Second Noah Drover, and Lead Devon George.

Earlier on Championship Sunday, Team Bruce (Conner Bruce, Conner MacEwan, Luke Butler, and Nate MacRae) advanced to the semifinals with a win over Calvin Smith’s squad from the Crapaud Curling Club. In the other quarterfinal, Robbie Doherty’s PEI Mixed Champions prevailed in a game that went the distance against Nick van Ouwekerk, Steve van Ouwekerk, Cruz Pineau, and Cory Miller.
In semifinal action, Eddie MacKenzie, with teammates Phil Gorveatt, Sean Ledgerwood, and superspare/ironman, Calvin Smith, played a tight game against clubmates Robbie Doherty, Michelle Shea, and Ryan Giddens. Big steals in the sixth and seventh ends secured MacKenzie’s spot in the final, where Team LeFort awaited after a decisive five-end win over Bruce.
The final mirrored last year’s Sydney Curling Club victory, a close affair early before a pair of big ends in the fourth and fifth sealed the win for Team LeFort. Congratulations to the champions, and hopefully they made it to the ferry on time for the long trip back to Sydney!
A sincere thank-you goes out to Ron, Danny, and Calvin for their hard work maintaining top-notch ice conditions throughout the weekend, and to the bartending staff at the Cornwall Curling Club for their hospitality. Finally, a huge thank-you to Village Green for their continued sponsorship and support, helping attract top curling talent from across the region and making this event one of the premier club curling competitions in Atlantic Canada.
Also – since he wrote this writeup and didn’t include himself – HUGE SHOUTOUT goes to Ryan Giddens for once again organizing and being the main force behind this event!
