Cornwall and Fredericton teams battle for 1st place in final Canadian Stick women’s round robin draw

One round robin draw, at 1 this afternoon, remains to be played in the ten team, two pool Women’s division at the Canadian Stick Curling Championship, hosted by the Cornwall Curling Club.

Two teams, the Jean Marie Denning/Alye Lou McCarthy duo from Fredericton NB, and the host club’s Shirley Lank/Mary Plamondon rink have only one loss in the A pool, with the New Brunswick team, at 3-1 win-loss, having a bye in the last round, while the Cornwall squad, who play the Grace Donale/Diane Gallant team from Fredericton (1-2) this afternoon, sit at 2-1. The other two rinks in the pool are also at 1-2.

The Cornwall rink of Jean Anderson and Margaret Stewart, and the Eleanor Murray/Irene King twosome from Fredericton are both undefeated, at 3-0, and will face off against each other this afternoon in a first-place battle in the B pool. The Diane Mallison/Patricia Moulaison team from Yarmouth are 1-2, while the Audrey Callaghan/Ann Barwise squad from Alberton’s Western Community Curling Club has the bye in the final draw, and sits at 1-3. The Diane Jenson/Connie Graham duo from Fredericton are 0-4.

The first place winners out of the round robin will earn byes to the semi-finals, Thursday at 1:15 pm, while the second and third place teams from opposing pools will face off at 3:15 this afternoon, with the winners advancing to the semis. The fourth and fifth place teams will also play at 3:15.
The winners of the semis will advance to the 3:15 Thursday final.
