We have EXCITING news for the upcoming season – the Cornwall Curling Club will be opening EARLY to host some PRESEASON leagues and events this year beginning on September 14th!
Traditionally, our friends at the Crapaud Curling Club host most of the Island pre-season events, but they are in the process of doing some maintenance this season and won’t be able to open during September.
Our club has been asked if we would be able to put our ice in a little early to host some important CurlPEI preseason events and the traditional, competitive preseason league and preseason practices and the Board of Directors has approved the request.
To maximize this time, we are also hoping to host a few other leagues/events during that time as well.
Registration for these events should be live by Wednesday, August 20th at cornwall.curling.io
Below are the main details:
COMPETITIVE PRESEASON LEAGUE:
WHEN: Sundays & Wednesdays, 6:30p-830p, Sept 14th-Oct 15th PLUS a playoff event on Saturday, Oct 18th
NOTE: If more than 8 teams register, we will also have a 2nd draw at 8:45p-10:45p
COST: $115 + HST per person (see fees note below)
INCLUDES: 12 scheduled games PLUS access to scheduled preseason practice ice at no additional charge
FEES NOTE: Participants are required to pay their annual Curling Canada ($5) and CurlPEI ($23) fees to participate in this league. Curling IO will keep track of payments made, and this will cover your regular season CC/CurlPEI fees at ANY Island club.
This league is open to teams from any club! It is designed for competitive teams to gear up for the upcoming season.
PRESEASON PRACTICES:
WHEN: See calendar of events (currently16 scheduled events – we will add more if demand requires it)
COST: These practices are included in the preseason competitive league fees. Those NOT participating in that league can reserve time at the regular club drop-in rate of $15 person/hour.
PRESEASON RENTALS:
WHEN: See calendar of events for Rental Ice Available
COST: Regular ice rental rates $150 for 1 sheet for 2 hours.

OPEN ICE FOR RETURNING MEMBERS:
WHEN: Oct 16th & 17th, 9a-5p
COST: FREE TO ALL RETURNING MEMBERS (and preseason competitive league participants)

FREE COME TRY CURLING FOR TEENS & ADULTS
WHEN: Friday & Saturday Oct 3rd-4th, 6:30p-8p AND Sunday, Oct 5th, 4p-5:30p
COST: FREE!
Are you interested in curling but never stepped on the ice? Did you curl once but it’s been a few years? Join us for our FREE Come Try Curling event for teens & adults. Three sessions that will help you become comfortable with the basics of curling! Afterwards you can join one of our recreational leagues or continue into our 8-week Learn to Curl program.
INTRO TO CURLING FUN DAY (Ages 6-12)
WHEN: Sunday, Oct 19th, 1p-2:30p
COST: FREE!
A chance for your child to try out curling – learn the basics of sliding, throwing the rocks and sweeping. Afterwards they can join our Little Rockers or Novice program.
OTHER EVENTS & DETAILS
We are working on plans for a few other events/programs as well and will provide more information as those plans take shape.
It is noted that the preseason is separate from our regular season membership, leagues, and events.
If returning members want to get on the ice BEFORE the free, open ice times scheduled for October 16th-17th they will be required to join one of the leagues, pay a drop-in fee during scheduled practice times, or pay for a rental.
We are doing our best to be fiscally responsible with our staff hours during this preseason period and ensure that we are able to cover any additional expenses from opening early. We feel confident we will be able to accomplish this between preseason league fees, CurlPEI grants, rentals, and other planned activities.
The end of September and beginning of October is traditionally a very busy time at the club as we gear up for our upcoming season, plan our special events, and get registrations taken care of for the season. We have planned the attached schedule to maximize our staff’s time, energy, and hours as we host our preseason events and prepare for our regular season.
REGULAR SEASON REGISTRATION
Returning member registration for our regular season will begin on Monday, September 22nd
New member registration will begin on Monday, September 29th
