Kathy O’Rourke to be special guest at Junior Practice Members Year-End Event!

We are excited to announce that Kathy O’Rourke will join us for our “Junior Practice Members’ Year-End Event”!! #CurlingCanada

There are many great photos of PEI’s own elite curler Kathy O’Rourke to be found… After all, she has been on the curling scene winning championships for many years…. as well as receiving accolades for her professional and personal accomplishments for as many years.

But this photo … it is … FIERCE.

The photo of Kathy unequivocally captures the intensity and commitment in which she has lived out her curling career …and otherwise… no doubt!

Determination and heart, belief in herself and belief in…

Making… that…shot.

Kathy started her Provincial Champion title dynasty years in 1989 and went on to attend her first Scotties Tournament of Hearts…..But our Island’s favourite year to watch Kathy at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts was in 2010: when she skipped one of PEI’s greatest curling teams to the Gold Medal game !!

The road to the gold medal game against curling legend Jennifer Jones is, no doubt, filled with stories of challenges… and of victories… and of special reflections that she carries in her heart… right next to where her silver medal was placed on that Saturday in 2010 after a very close game.

Kathy is a member of the PEI Curling Hall of Fame, and has been awarded many prestigious awards and/or acknowledgments, including being presented the Senate of Canada 150 medal.
She is a curling icon.

But more so, Kathy is a Canadian athlete who has taken her talents and given back to the game that she loves. Kathy’s passion for this game of curling has not dwindled, and her most recent attendance as an alternate for Team Birt at the 2021 Scotties, and her current service on the National Curling Board, are but a small glimpse of her passion and commitment to the sport of curling.

The bigger glimpse of Kathy’s passions and determination? Well …look closely at that photo.
It is the image of sheer confidence, focus, and the heart of a competitor.

We are tremendously excited that Kathy will join us at our year-end Red and Blue Junior Practice Members’ event on April 3rd as a special guest. Kathy serves as a role model to many, and was recently noted as a tremendous inspiration by World Champion Lauren Lenentine as she peruses her own dreams of a Scotties Gold Medal medal final… And we also know that our Junior curlers, like Grace and Greta, or Isaiah or Ben, or Rachel or Brayden…et al will be eager to meet Kathy and curl a game with her.

Watch out kids…! There will be no softening of her game for you…for this competitor and athlete it will be “game on”! ?
(Oh ya… Kathy is also generously bringing some swag for out Juniors to have a chance to WIN!)
