Cornwall Mixed Doubles Funspiel a big success and a lot of fun!

Our Mixed Doubles funspiel, which gave a full draw of 32 curlers a chance to try out Canada’s new Olympic Gold Medal Sport, with each team playing two games, was a big success on Saturday afternoon. Here’s a report from organizer Myrna Sanderson:

It was so amazing to see curlers of every stage in their career playing on Saturday afternoon.  From the very new curlers to us not so new curlers.  Thank you, everyone, for jumping in and making this afternoon such a fun experience!

Overall winners were the team of the young Katelyn Burgoyne and her not-so-young partner Garth Cudmore.

Runner-up was the husband and wife team of Danny and Darlene Kneabone.
Must do it again soon.

Tyler MacKenzie wins PEI Mixed “A” section, Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut vs Jamie Newson in “B” final

Saturday was a busy day at the nine-team PEI Mixed (fours)  Curling Championship at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, with the “A” section winner decided, and the finalists set for the 10 am Sunday “B” final of the Modified Triple Knockout draw.

File photo: Tyler MacKenzie at last year’s PEI Mixed here at Cornwall

The competition will be going into Monday, as there will be separate “A” and “B” winners, meaning no team can capture three sections. The Tyler MacKenzie team from Charlottetown, which includes Aleya Quilty, Doug MacGregor, and Jodi Murphy, and were finalists in last year’s PEI mixed, won the “A” section on Saturday morning, with a 6-1 win over Jamie Newson and his Silver Fox and Charlottetown team, stealing three singles in a row in ends four through six, to bring the “A” final to a speedy conclusion. Newson has a second chance to qualify for the Monday championship round, advancing to the “B” final with a 10-3 victory over the host club’s Daryl MacDonald team on Saturday evening.

MacKenzie did not advance to the “B” final, losing a 5-4 decision to Mitchell Schut from Cornwall in the afternoon draw. MacKenzie was trailing 3-0 after five ends, but picked up 4 in the sixth to take the lead. Schut blanked the seventh and scored a deuce in the final end for the win. Schut advanced to the “B” semi with a 9-6 win over Corey Miller from the Fox in the morning draw.

Schut now plays Newson in the “B” final at 10 am Sunday. The “C” semis go at 2 pm Sunday, with the “C” final at 6.

The winners of the three sections will advance to the championship round on Monday at 10 am and, if needed, 2 pm, with the PEI Mixed Champions then advancing to the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships, November 5-10 2018 at the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg.

Newson, MacKenzie to meet in PEI Mixed “A” event final (Journal)

ALBERTON-It will be Jamie Newson against Tyler MacKenzie in the “A” section final of the P.E.I. Provincial Mixed Fours Curling championship in Saturday’s 10 a.m. draw at the Western Community Curling Club

Newson and his Silver Fox and Charlottetown Curling Club team of Melissa Morrow, Andrew MacDougall and Miranda Ellis scored a pair of lopsided victories on the opening day of the modified triple knock-out championship Friday at the Western Community Club. They started off with a 6-1 victory over the Freddy Fraser rink from the host club in the afternoon draw and scored a 10-3 victory over the Mitchell Schut Cornwall rink in the evening draw.

Aleya Quilty, mate on the Tyler MacKenzie Charlottetown rink, calls a shot during the opening draw of the P.E.I. Provincial Mixed Curling Championship at Western Community Curling Club. Looking on are skip Calvin Smith and mate Lauren Ferguson from Crapaud and watching a shot on the adjacent ice, Iva Griffin and Glen Betts from the host Western club. – Eric McCarthy

MacKenzie took a slightly longer path to the “A” final as both of his games Friday went to an extra end. He scored two with hammer in the morning draw for a 9-7 win over Calvin Smith from Crapaud, and he fought back from a 5-1 deficit at the fourth end break and was up 6-5 on Daryl MacDonald from the host club after seven ends. MacDonald tied the game in the eighth but MacKenzie and his Charlottetown rink of Jodi Murphy (lead), Doug MacGregor and Aleya Quilty got the single in the extra for a 7-6 win.

There are draws scheduled Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and, if necessary, Monday at 2 and 6 p.m.

Sticking with the game of curling: delivery sticks extending curling career for some (Journal)

Alberton–Hips and knees seem to be common talking points when stick curlers get together for bonspiels and championships.

Harvey Holm calls a shot on one ice while fellow Alberton stick curler Audrey Callaghan watches as Cornwall curler Gloria Clarke calls a shot on an adjacent ice. Stick curlers, when they are playing skip, can sweep from their hog line in. Their teammates deliver their stones using a delivery stick. – Eric McCarthy

Etta Reid, who teamed up with fellow Cornwall stick curler Elaine Hughes last week in Alberton to win their second provincial women’s stick curling title in five years, says she’s just back in competition after taking last year off following hip replacement. They edged perennial women’s champions Gloria Clarke and Ruth Stavert, also from Cornwall, 5-4 in the championship final

Interestingly the only other time since 2010 that Stavert and Clarke didn’t win the provincial title was in 2014 when Reid and Hughes claimed the championship, in Reid’s first year of competition

Despite Clarke going through chemotherapy and Stavert hobbling on a new hip, the pair competed in 2014 and finished third. Stavert’s husband made her a special crutch so she could compete. A month later they rebounded to win the Maritime championship.

At 79 years of age, Sterling Stratton has just won his fifth stick curling title in the Open Division. The Cornwall curler had given up the traditional four-person sport at age 50 because of arthritic knees.

He was 60 when, at the urging of Ernie Stavert, he got back into curling. Stavert had just pioneered stick curling on P.E.I., in 1998, using a length of plumbing pipe with a 45-degree elbow fastened to the end of it as a delivery device.

Stratton’s first two provincial titles were with Stavert as his partner. His last three have been with Barry Craswell.

Stavert, the coordinator for this year’s stick provincials, is thrilled with the growth of the sport. ”It’s a very congenial game,” he said.

“It keeps people in curling who mightn’t otherwise be in it,” he said.

Clarke is thrilled with the stick game’s growth. “Stick curling is a great sport because you’re always involved in the game. You have to skip an end (call the game) and you have to throw an end, so you’re never idle and you’re always involved,” she explained. “It’s short. It’s an hour, so you don’t freeze to death. It’s great for people like us who are getting older and we have a bad knee or we have a hip replacement. It allows us to continue curling.”

Curl PEI keen to capitalize on mixed doubles after Olympic debut (CBC PEI)

Note: Cornwall is holding a Mixed Doubles Funspiel Saturday, February 17  from 12:30 to 5:30 pm. Everybody is welcome to come out and watch!

Group planning to offer more league play, tournaments, and junior programming in response to ‘positive buzz’

By Steve Bruce, CBC News

The relatively new version of curling was featured at the Winter Olympics for the first time, with Canada winning gold on Tuesday morning

Curl P.E.I. president Andrew Robinson says throughout the week of Olympic coverage, Island curling clubs received plenty of calls from people keen to try the sport.

“It’s gotten a lot of positive buzz,” Robinson said. “This is almost a brand new way of playing the sport with different strategy. It’s very fast, it’s very active, you’re sweeping your own rocks. It’s an exciting new way for people to experience the sport as participants and viewers.”

Andrew Robinson, president of Curl P.E.I., calls mixed doubles curling a ‘brand new way of playing the sport with a different strategy.’ (Stephanie Brown/CBC)

P.E.I. has held provincial championships in mixed doubles curling in each of the past four years.

But Robinson said until this year, it’s been difficult to find participants. Just two teams entered last year, with one pulling out at the last minute.

‘It’s an exciting new way for people to experience the sport as participants and viewers.’— Andrew Robinson, president, Curl P.E.I.

At this year’s tournament in early February, however, eight teams signed up.

Robinson credits January’s Canadian Olympic trials for the sudden jump in interest. That event was broadcast nationally, and saw Island curler Brett Gallant and his partner Jocelyn Peterman make it all the way to the semifinal.

“With the Olympic curling trials on TV, leading to the Olympics,  a lot of curling fans and curlers themselves have gotten interested,” Robinson said. “We’ve now really got an opportunity to introduce [mixed doubles curling] across the spectrum.”

Island curler Brett Gallant’s strong performance at the Canadian Olympic trials helped generate more interest in mixed doubles curling across the province, Curl P.E.I. says. (The Canadian Press)

Curl P.E.I. plans to work with the Island’s seven curling clubs to set up more league play, tournaments and junior programming.

Robinson said the timing is right to grow the sport, particularly at the junior level. Mixed doubles curling will be a part of the 2023 Canada Winter Games, which P.E.I. is hosting.

Mitchell Schut rink representing Cornwall in PEI Mixed, starting Friday in Alberton

The Provincial Mixed (fours) Curling Championship takes place February 16-19 at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. This is the traditional four-person version of mixed curling, as opposed to the Mixed Doubles two person championship that was held this past weekend.

Nine teams are entered, with curlers from all seven dedicated PEI curling facilities. This event has no age restrictions. The rink of Mitchell Schut, Sierra Clyke, Nick Johnston, and Sydney Howatt is entered from our Club.

The teams will play a modified triple knockout format, starting at 10 am Friday (Schut’s 1st game is at 2) with section winners dropping down to compete in the next section. The section winners will advance to a two-game championship round on Monday, unless a team wins all three sections, in which case they will immediately be declared champion. If a team wins two sections, they will take the title if they win either game, while their opponent would have to win both.

The defending PEI champs, the rink of Dennis Watts, Jackie Reid, Erik Brodersen, and Alison Griffin from the Charlottetown and Western Community clubs, are not back this year, so there will be a new championship team.

Winners advance to the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships, November 5-10 2018 at the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg.

Cornwall’s Bill Hope rink wins PEI Senior Men’s title

The Bill Hope rink from the Cornwall Curling Club, which includes third Craig Mackie, second David Murphy, and lead Peter Murdoch are the new PEI Senior Men’s (age 50+) champs, unseating the defending champion Philip Gorveatt rink with a 7-4 win this morning at the Crapaud Community Curling Club.

Photo (L-R): Winning Bill Hope rink – David Murphy, Bill Hope, Craig Mackie, Peter Murdoch

The Hope foursome had won two sections of the modified triple knockout draw, giving them a “double life” in the two-game championship draw, but they won the first one, and the sudden-death game was not required. In the final, a fourth end triple, followed by stolen deuce in the fifth gave them a 6-3 lead. The teams then traded singles, and Gorveatt ran out of rocks in the last end.

Photo (L-R): Finalist Philip Gorveatt rink — Mark Victor, Mike Dillon, Kevin Champion, Philip Gorveatt

Rounding out the Gorveatt finalist rink are third Kevin Champion, second stone Mike Dillon, and lead Mark Victor. The Hope team, who also made it to the finals in the Master’s (age 60+) championships this year, had a 5-1 win-loss record in this event, losing only to Gorveatt.

On Sunday the Shirley Berry rink, also from here at the Cornwall Curling Club, went undefeated with a 5-0 win-loss record, sweeping all three modified triple knockout sections in the five-team Senior Women’s event, making a championship round unnecessary.

Photo (L-R): Kevin Smith from the host Crapaud club, Shirley Berry, Janice Murdoch, Arleen Harris, Kim Nicholson

The Berry team, which includes skip Shirley Berry, third stone Janice Murdoch, second Arleen Harris, and lead Kim Nicholson, won the “A” section final 8-7 in an extra end over the Sharon Horne rink from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, coming from behind to take a triple in the eighth end and steal a single in the extra. They then took on Cornwall clubmate Debbie Rhodenhizer and her rink, winning 7-5, and captured their third section with a 10-8 victory over defending champion Shelly Ebbett and her Charlottetown team, stealing a deuce in the final end for the win.

The Horne rink, who won the “A” final, were the women’s event runners-up.

The Shirley Berry and Bill Hope teams now advance to the 2018 Everest Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championship,  March 24 to 29 at the Stratford Ontario Rotary Complex.

Cornwall’s Berry sweeps PEI Senior Women’s ch’ship. Hope has advantage in Monday Sr. Men’s Ch’ship round

The PEI Senior Women’s Curling Championship wrapped up on Sunday at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, while the Senior Men’s will conclude on Monday with the 10 am or the 2 pm draw.

The Shirley Berry rink from the Cornwall Curling Club went undefeated with a 5-0 win-loss record, sweeping all three modified triple knockout sections in the five-team women’s event, making a championship round unnecessary.

Bill Hope and his Cornwall team have won two of the three sections in the three-team men’s event, both over defending champion Philip Gorveatt and his Charlottetown foursome, who won the third section, and will have a “double life” in Monday’s championship round against Gorveatt at 10 am and 2 pm, winning the title if he takes either game, while Gorveatt would have to win both. The Hope squad, which includes third Craig Mackie, second David Murphy, and lead stone Peter Murdoch, won the “A” section final 6-2 and the “C” final 7-6, while Gorveatt, whose team includes third Kevin Champion, second Mike Dillon, and lead Mark Victor, won the “B” by a 7-2 score.

The Shirley Berry team and the men’s winner (either the Bill Hope or Philip Gorveatt rinks) advance to the 2018 Everest Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championship,  March 24 to 29 at the Stratford Ontario Rotary Complex.

Smith/Ferguson duo wins PEI Mixed Doubles Championship (updated pictures)

The Crapaud Community Curling Club duo of Calvin Smith and Lauren Ferguson beat Cornwall’s Sydney Howatt and Nick Johnston team 6-4 this afternoon to win the 2018 PEI Mixed Doubles Championship, the two person version of curling that is now an Olympic sport. Smith/Ferguson won two of the three modified triple knockout sections, which gave them a “double life” in the 2 game championship round, as a win in either game would have given them the championship, but they did it on the first try. In the final game, they built up a 4-0 lead after three ends, taking a single, and stealing another single and a double. Howatt/Johnston came back with a pair of singles, and the teams traded deuces in ends six and seven, but the Cornwall team ran out of rocks in the final end.

Cornwall’s Berry one win away from PEI Senior Women’s title, defending champ Gorveatt wins men’s “B” section

The Shirley Berry rink from the Cornwall Curling Club has captured their second section of the modified triple knockout draw and needs just one win out of their next three games in order to become the PEI Senior Women’s champs. They beat their clubmates, the Debbie Rhodenhizer rink by a 7-5 score on Saturday evening at the Crapaud Community Curling Club to win the B section, after winning the “A” final over Sharon Horne of Alberton on Monday.

Shirley Berry

Berry now faces the winner of a 10 am Sunday game between Rhodenhizer and defending champion Shelley Ebbett of Charlottetown in the “C”  final at 2 pm Sunday.  If Berry wins that game, she takes the championship, having captured all three sections. If not, she advances to the two-game championship round against the “C” winner, on Monday at 10 am and 2 pm, and will take the title if she wins either game, while her opponent would have to win both.

Philip Gorveatt

There are separate “A” and “B” section winners on the men’s side, with Cornwall’s Bill Hope beating defending champ Phil Gorveatt of Charlottetown to take the “A” section on Friday, and Gorveatt returning the favour with a win over Hope in the “B” final on Saturday evening. Gorveatt has advanced to the 2 pm Sunday “C” final, and awaits the winner of a 10 am game between Hope and Crapaud’s Dario Zannier. If either the Hope or Gorveatt rink wins the “C” final, they will have a “double life” in the  two-game championship round against the other section winner on Monday at 10 am and 2 pm, and will take the title with a win either game, while their opponent would need to win both.

Three men’s and five women’s teams took part in the championship. The winners advance to the 2018 Everest Canadian Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championship,  March 24 to 29 at the Stratford Ontario Rotary Complex.

Travelers Curling Club Championship Eligibility Requirements
(subject to change – the latest info is at:  http://www.curling.ca/2017travelers/about/eligibility-requirements/

2017 ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

We trust that all participants will respect the intent of this championship, which is for curling clubs to engage their members to participate in a club championship to declare a club champion to represent the curling club. The event is formulated for true club championship teams, not past or present elite. The objective is to support the development of curling across Canada. We keep this objective in mind as we set our eligibility requirements and on-ice rules, including the Curling Canada Rules of Curling for General Play. Curling Canada reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to exclude any team that violates this spirit and intent as it pertains to the rules below.

  1. The curling club, represented by the team, must be affiliated with its provincial/territorial curling association, and thereby its national curling association (CC), and all dues must be paid in full to both the provincial/territorial and national association(s). The players of any club champion team must be members in good standing of the affiliated curling club. Any player can be a member of more than one affiliated curling club, but shall declare one “home club” for this competition.
  2. Each club will declare a men’s team and women’s team of FOUR (4) players to represent their club through either their normal league or club championship process, or through a designated Travelers Curling Club Championship competition within the club. The declared teams, through either process, MUST have at least three players who have played together in a sanctioned club league during the current season. If a replacement fourth player is used, (i.e., a player who did not play regularly on that team throughout the season) that player MUST play lead. Players who play exclusively in a major/super league without playing in another sanctioned club league are ineligible to compete. Clubs that only have mixed or open leagues (i.e., no men’s and women’s leagues) must contact their association for approval to participate.
  1. Each team will be allowed only one player who has played in a Juniors’, Men’s (Brier), Women’s (Scotties) or Seniors’ provincial/territorial event in the current or previous four curling seasons or participated in a Grand Slam event in the current or previous four curling seasons (2012-2013, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-2017).* No player on the team can have played in a Canadian Juniors, Men’s, Women’s or Senior’s Canadian Championship for those years (i.e. national competitors are excluded as regular or replacement players on the team).* Exception – Provinces/Territories [including PEI] with an open provincial/territory event will be permitted 1 player who has placed top 25% in a Juniors’, Men’s (Brier), Women’s (Scotties) or Seniors’ provincial/territory event in the current or previous 4 curling seasons, or participated in a Grand Slam event in the current or previous 4 curling seasons.
  2. Players who competed in the 2016 Travelers Curling Club Championship national event are ineligible to compete in the 2017 play downs.
  3. All games will be 8 ends with ties being decided by a full extra end.
  4. Once a four person team has been declared a club champion, a maximum of 1 replacement/substitute player from the club can play lead. It is at the discretion of each curling club to determine their replacement/substitute rules throughout their process to declare their club champions.
  5. Each team must be comprised of 4 players aged 19 or over, as of November 1st, 2017. Provincial/Territorial curling associations may adopt a more restrictive age criteria if they choose.
  6. Curling Canada has the sole authority to grant exceptions to these rules in extraordinary circumstances. Before exercising this discretion, Curling Canada will consult with the relevant provincial/territorial curling association, and will notify the provincial/territorial association in writing of any decisions regarding exceptions that are granted.

UPEI Panthers (all Cornwall members) set for AUS Championships in Fredericton (UPEI)

By Marshall Mayne

UPEI will be sending familiar faces to compete at the 2018 Subway AUS Curling Championships this week in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The championships begin Thursday, February 8 and run through February 11.

The 2018 UPEI Women’s Curling Panthers will be made up of a new foursome that has members who have seen AUS action within the last 6 years.

Following a year hiatus, skip Veronica Smith is back for the Panthers. Smith has attended four AUS Championships while qualifying for three U Sports Championships. Smith and the current Panthers are hoping to rekindle the success she had during her first three trips to the AUS Championships. Outside of UPEI Curling, Smith has also represented Prince Edward Island at the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Canadian Junior Championships.

The lone rookie on the team and playing second, Chloe McCloskey, will be getting her first taste of AUS Curling action in 2018. McCloskey, has enjoyed previous success by representing Prince Edward Island at the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Canadian Junior Championships. Meghan Ching will be back for the Panthers this season throwing lead stones. Ching competed at the 2017 AUS Championships as the mate for UPEI.

Skip Veronica Smith feels the curling experiences of the 2018 Panthers could lead to success for UPEI.

“With the experience, we bring to the tournament this year, I feel we have the ability to maintain focus throughout the entire round robin with hopes to qualify for Sunday, and bring an AUS banner home to UPEI.”

Second Strathcona Cup curler from Cornwall

Bob MacWilliams has pointed out that there was a second former Cornwall curler participating in the Strathcona Cup tour of Scotland, which wrapped up on Friday, with Canada capturing the Cup this time. Here’s his bio.

Hi, I’m Jeremy MacDonald.

I’m originally from Cornwall, PEI. I started curling at the Cornwall Curling Club at the age of 8 years old when my parents were founding members of the club. I curled competitively in juniors reaching the Provincial final in my last year of eligibility. I continued curling out of Cornwall until the age of 25 when I moved to Ontario for work. After moving to Ontario I curled out of the Winchester Curling Club until my current club the North Grenville Curling Club opened in 2005. I have won several club championships and in 2008 I won the Royal Victoria Jubilee, which is the Canadian Branch of the RCCC’s men’s championship.

A consummate volunteer, I have served on different curling club executives, help with ice making as a Level 2 Ice technician, and have helped with club junior programs. I am currently the President of the Kemptville Wildcats Little League organization and have served on the executive for over 5 years. I am also a Past President of the Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonia Curling Club serving as President for 4 years.

I’ve been married to my wife Tracey for 18 years. I taught her to curl 22 years ago and she now curls and volunteers around the club as much as I do. We have an 18-year-old son Brandon that started curling when he was 7 and loves the sport as much as we do.

Professionally, I have worked as a Network Administrator at the Royal Canadian Mint since 2014. I have been working in the IT industry since moving to Ottawa in 1998. In my spare time when I have some, I enjoy golfing, coaching and umpiring baseball, playing with electronics, watching football (American NFL football!!!), and obviously CURLING.

I look forward to seeing some tourists from the Scottish 2013 Strathcona Cup tour when we come to Scotland. I had the pleasure of welcoming the tourists when they landed in Ottawa and hosted them at our club during their first week in Canada. I also attended the closing banquet and enjoyed getting to know that great group of tourists.

Cornwall’s Schut, Ferguson, Howatt, Ch’town’s MacMillan are the Canada Games Training Teams

The four Canada Games Training Teams – two boy’s and two girl’s, have been selected following Trials #1, which wrapped up this afternoon at the Silver Fox in Summerside. These teams will receive additional training and support in advance of Trials #2 in November at the Cornwall Curling Club, where the two teams that will represent PEI at the 2019 Canada Games in Red Deer AB, February 15 until March 3, 2019, will be selected.

The two boy’s teams are the Mitchell Schut team from Cornwall, and Charlottetown’s Chase MacMillan rink, while the Lauren Ferguson team from Cornwall, Crapaud, and Charlottetown, and the Sydney Howatt foursome from Cornwall are the girl’s Training Teams.

(Skip-lead L-R): Mitchell Schut, Nick Johnston, Liam Kelly, Colin MacKenzie, Bill Hope (coach)

(Skip-lead L-R): Chase MacMillan, Jack MacFadyen, Liam Barbrick, Davis Nicholson, Rob Roberts (coach)

Schut was the first to lock up a Training Team spot, winning his first three games in the three-team double round robin boy’s competition. He lost his fourth to MacMillan, who finished with a 2-1 record. A scheduled game between MacMillan and the Cruz Pineau team (0-3) was not required, as it would not have affected the outcome.

(Skip-lead L-R): Lauren Ferguson, Katie Shaw, Alexis Burris, Lexie Murray, David Murphy (coach)

(L-R): Sierra Clyke (third), Sydney Howatt (skip) Meghan Sherren (second), Madelyn Cantwell (lead), A.J. Campbell (coach)

Ferguson and Howatt both finished with 3-1 win-loss records, with Howatt losing her opener to Ferguson, and Ferguson losing to Cornwall’s Rachel MacLean, who finished at 2-2. Clubmates Howatt and MacLean were tied with 2-1 records going into the last round, where they played each other, with Howatt winning 7-3. The Clara Jack and Emily Sanderson teams from Cornwall both finished with 1-3 records.

The top four Open division teams and top two women’s division duos from this event advance to the Maritime Stick Curling Championships, in Chester, Nova Scotia from March 23-25, while the winners of the Open division also earn the right to participate in the 2018 Canadian Open Stick Curling Championship, April 2-5 at the St. Albert Curling Club in St. Albert Alberta.

The defending champions – the Walter Callaghan and John Vincent duo from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton in the Open division, and the Gloria Clarke and Ruth Stavert team from here at the Cornwall  Curling Club are back looking to defend their titles.

The 12 Open Division teams are divided into two pools, each playing a round robin, with the top three teams from each pool advancing to the playoff round. The four Women’s Division teams will play a double round robin, with the second and third place teams advancing to a semi-final, with the winner facing the first place team in the final.
