Cornwall’s Jeffrey Taylor, Veronica Smith rinks advance to A finals at PEI 17 & Under

Sylvan Learning

Two draws are in the books after opening day play at the Sylvan Learning Provincial 17 and Under Curling Championship, being played at O’Leary’s Maple Leaf Curling Club. Two of the five women’s teams, and two of the six men’s teams taking part are still undefeated,  and have advanced to the A finals of this triple knockout event, Saturday morning at 9.

In the women’s A final, the Veronica Smith foursome from Cornwall, last year’s 15 and Under champs, will face the Amanda MacLean Canada Games rink from the host Maple Leaf club.  Smith and her team downed Summerside’s Jenny McLean rink  11-2 in opening day play, while the MacLean rink took a five pointer in the opening end, and picked up four points in the third in a game against Montague’s Carolyn Rose rink, with the teams shaking hands in the fifth end.

The men’s A final will see  Cornwall’s Jeffrey Taylor team play the Alex Matters rink from Charlottetown. Taylor edged defending champion Matthew MacLean from the host Maple Leaf club 4-3 in an extra end in his opener, and went on to shade Tyler Smith and his Canada Games team from the Silver Fox, in a 6-5 come from behind decision, also in an extra. Taylor was trailing 5-1 after six ends, but scored a triple in the seventh, and stole singles in the eighth end, and  the extra end to pull out the victory.

Matters had only one game,  a 10-2 routing of the Daniel McCarthy rink from the Western Community and Charlottetown clubs.

Saturday and Sunday draws are at 9 am and 1 and 5 pm, with the A finals at 9, and the B at 5 on Saturday, and the C finals Sunday at 5. The two game championship round goes Monday at 9 am and 1 pm, with the event winners advance to the Sylvan Learning Atlantic 17 and Under Championships, April 15-17 at the Charlottetown Curling Club.

In the three team women’s section, the Ruth Stavert and Gloria Clarke due from the Cornwall Curling Club went through the double round robin competition with a perfect 4-0 record. Under the rules, they are automatically declared the champion. The second and third place teams from the round robin played off for the runner-up position, with the Shirley Lank/Mary Plamondon twosome from Cornwall, who were 2-2 in round robin play, taking the honours by beating the Audrey Callaghan/Ann Barwise rink from the Western and Maple Leaf clubs, who did not pick up a win in the competition, by a  9-2 score.

In the men’s and mixed section, the The Walter Callaghan/John Vincent duo from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton was among four teams finishing round robin play in the 15 team men’s/mixed division with just one loss, ending up in second place in their pool, as they lost 6-2 to Charlottetown’s  Bob Acorn/Willie Nicholson twosome,  who also had one loss, in their round robin encounter.

Callaghan/Vincent then beat Sherril Barwise and Eddie Bernard from the Maple Leaf and Western clubs, who were third place in the other pool,  by a 6-2 score in the quarter-finals to advance to the semi-final round, where they edged out the two time champion Ernie Stavert and Sterling Stratton rink from the Cornwall Curling Club by a 4-3 score. In the other quarter-final, the Bazil and Sterling Higginbotham pair from Montague doubled their clubmates Bob Leard and Carter vanIderstine 6-3.

In this afternoon’s semi-finals, the Higginbothams beat the Acorn/Nicholson team 6-4, while Callaghan/Vincent edged Stavert/Stratton 4-3. This set up the  final between the Higginbothams, and the defending champion Callaghan/Vincent team, and put Stavert/Stratton and Acorn/Nicholson in the consolation game.

Both the final and the consolation finals went into extra ends, with Acorn/Nicholson taking a deuce in the extra to beat Stavert/Stratton in the consolation game, and Callaghan/Vincent also scoring an extra end deuce to repeat as champions, with a 7-5 win over the Higginbotham rink.

The top four men’s/mixed teams and the top two women’s teams from this competition earn the right to compete in the Maritime Stick Curling Championships, March 15-17 at the Beaver Curling Club in Moncton. The top two men’s/mixed teams may also compete at the 2011 Canadian Open Stick Curling Championship, March 23-25, 2011 at the Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge BC.

In stick curling there are two curlers per team, who deliver their rocks with delivery sticks, with each team member delivering from opposite ends. Sweeping is allowed only from the hog line to the back of the house at the playing end. Two curlers, one from each team, alternately deliver 6 stones each per end, while their teammate skips that end. The roles are then reversed, and the partners deliver the stones back. No stone may be removed from play until the fourth stone of each end. Games are six ends and take about an hour to play. Birt rink wins PEI Scotties title (Guardian)

Suzanne Birt's rink has won the P.E.I. Scotties title and advances to the national final in Charlottetown, Feb. 19-27.

Guardian Photo: Suzanne Birt’s rink has won the P.E.I. Scotties title and advances to the national final in Charlottetown, Feb. 19-27.

Suzanne Birt’s rink will represent Prince Edward Island at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Feb. 19-27.

Birt of the Charlottetown Curling Club scored three in the 10th end to break open a close game, defeating clubmate Kathy’O’Rourke 7-3.

After opening the game with a blank, the teams virtually traded single points until the final end.

Birt put her rink in a position to win the provincial title today after scoring a dramatic 8-7 come-from-behind win Sunday night at the Cornwall Curling Club. O’Rourke led that game 7-4 after eight ends.

So, Birt and her rink — third Shelly Bradley, second Robyn MacPhee and lead Leslie MacDougall — will be carrying the P.E.I. flag when the national women’s curling championship comes to the Charlottetown Civic Centre in two weeks.

Cornwall’s Sweetapple rink repeats as women’s Masters champs (corrects previous version)

A deuce in the third end, followed by a steals of three, one, and two points in the next three ends helped propel the Carol Sweetapple rink from Cornwall a 9-1 win over their clubmates, the Diane MacKay foursome this afternoon to repeat as PEI Masters women’s champions, as the twice-delayed Marco Polo Land PEI Masters wrapped up at the Charlottetown Curling Club.

MacKay advanced to this afternoon’s final by beating six-time champion Jeanne Duffenais  this morning by a 7-4 score in the B final of this double-knockout event. Duffenais had earlier beaten Sweetapple 7-1 in the B semi-final. while Sweetapple won the A final on Wednesday, 8-6 over Charlottetown’s Valerie MacLean rink.

Other members of the winning Sweetapple rink are Marie MacDonald, Danielle Girard, and Marjorie Matthews, while Sherren MacKinnon, Judy Koke and Ruth Stavert round out the runner-up MacKay foursome.

Meanwhile, the  Mel Bernard rink from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside edged out the Bill Hope foursome from the Charlottetown Curling Club by a 5-4 score on Sunday evening to win men’s final. Although the event was hosted by the Charlottetown Curling Club, Sunday’s game was played at the Fox, as some of the players were not able to compete during the ice time scheduled for Monday in Charlottetown, after a Thursday storm delay, and a Friday postponement due to ice plant problems. Hope had beaten Bernard 7-2 in the “B” section final, played at the Cornwall Curling Club on Friday afternoon.

In Sunday evening’s final, the Hope rink scored first, with the teams trading single points in each end and Bernard stealing  one point in the seventh end of the eight end game to force an extra end, where Bernard had hammer and picked up the win. Playing with Bernard were Ted MacFadyen, Lou Nowlan, and Earle Proude, while the runner-up Hope team included Craig Mackie, David Murphy, and John DeLuca.

Sixteen men’s and four women’s teams took part in the double-knockout event for curlers age 60 and over.

Winners and runners-up earn the right to compete in the Maritime Masters Championships, February 14-19,  at the Charlottetown Curling Club. Winners may also participate in the Canadian Masters, March 30 to April 5 at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg.

Birt steals deuce in dramatic PEI Scotties C final win

The Suzanne Birt rink stole a deuce in the final end in a dramatic 8-7 come-from-behind finish tonight in a very close  Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Women’s Curling Championship “C” final against the Kathy O’Rourke rink  at the Cornwall Curling Club.

Birt was down 7-4 after eight ends, but narrowed the gap in the ninth with a deuce. In the 10th,  Erin Carmody, who throws fourth rock for O’Rourke, missed a hit on a Birt rock sitting on the button, giving Birt the steal of two. Five time PEI Scotties and former world junior champion Birt, with teammates Shelly Bradley, Robyn MacPhee, and Leslie MacDougall won sections  “A” and “C” in the triple knockout, while defending champion and last year’s Canadian runner-up O’Rourke took the “B” section.

Capturing the  two sections gives Birt a big advantage in Monday’s two game championship round, as winning either the 1:30 or the 6:30 game would give her the PEI championship, while O’Rourke,  and her team of Carmody, third Geri-Lynn Ramsay, and lead Tricia Affleck would have to win both games for a repeat championship win. As both Birt and O’Rourke curl out of the Charlottetown Curling Club, the winning team tomorrow will get to play before a home town crowd at the Canadian Scotties, February 19-27 at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.

Birt and O’Rourke advance to Scotties C final

The same teams who met in the A and B finals of the triple-knockout PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship, being contested here at a packed Cornwall Curling Club, will also meet in the C.  Five time PEI Scotties and former world junior champion Suzanne Birt won the A final on Friday by a 7-4 score over defending PEI women’s champion and Canadian silver medallist Kathy O’Rourke, who in turn took the B final, with a 6-4 Saturday win over Birt.

In this afternoon’s C semi-finals, both teams were in high gear, with O’Rourke quickly eliminating PEI’s Senior Women’s champ, Shirley Berry of Cornwall and Charlottetown, taking four in the first, stealing one in the second, and grabbing another 4 in end four in a 9-1 victory wrapped up before the fifth end break. Birt also dominated in her game over Charlottetown clubmate Kim Dolan, taking a triple in the second end, and stealing a single in the third. Dolan scored her only point of the game in end four, but Birt came back with a double in five, a single in six, and another in eight to win the game 8-1.

Tonight’s C final between Birt and O’Rourke begins at 6:30 pm. Both teams will then advance to Monday’s two game championship round, at 1:30 and 6:30 pm. The team that wins the C final tonight will have a big advantage going into tomorrow, as they will have to win either championship game to claim the trip down the highway to the Charlottetown Civic Centre for the national Scotties, February 19-27, while their opponent would have to win both games.

O’Rourke wins PEI Scotties B final, Dewar, Butler out

The defending champions and Canadian Scotties silver medallists, the Kathy O’Rourke rink, beat their Charlottetown clubmates, the Suzanne Birt foursome, by a 6-4 score this evening to capture the B section final of the triple knockout Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s curling championship being played at the Cornwall Curling Club. Birt had previously won the A final, with a 7-4 win over O’Rourke on Friday afternoon.

Also tonight, two of the six teams entered were eliminated from further play with Kim Dolan of Charlottetown eliminating Montague’s Tammy Dewar with a 6-1 win, and the Shirley Berry rink from Cornwall and Charlottetown sending the Donna Butler team from the host club home, beating them by a a 7-4 score.

On Sunday afternoon at 1:30, Birt and Dolan square off in one game, with Berry playing O’Rourke in the other. The winners of these games will face off at 6:30 pm in the C final. The two game championship round games will go Monday at 1:30 and 6:30 pm. A team advancing to that round with two section wins will take the title if they win either championship game.

The winner of the championship round will compete in the national Scotties, February 19-27  at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.

Both the provincial and national Scotties Tournament of Hearts competitions are sponsored by Kruger Products and its family of brands, including Scotties® facial tissue, Cashmere® and Purex® bathroom tissue, SpongeTowels®, and White Swan® products

O’Rourke and Birt advance to Scotties B final

The B final of the triple knockout PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s championships, taking place at the Cornwall Curling Club, is set for 6:30 this evening, and will be a repeat of yesterday’s A final, with the Kathy O’Rourke rink again taking on the Suzanne Birt foursome, who won the A final 7-4. Another Birt win would give her a big advantage going into the championship round on Monday, as the O’Rourke rink would have to win both games in order to repeat as champions, while the Birt team would go to the national Scotties, February 19-27 in Charlottetown, if they won either.
In the B semi-finals this afternoon, the O’Rourke team, with Erin Carmody throwing 4th stones, scored a triple in the fifth, a deuce in the seventh, and stole a single in the end eight en route to a win over Charlottetown clubmates the Kim Dolan rink. Birt’s game against home town favorite Donna Butler was closer, with the teams tied after 6. Birt recorded a triple in end seven, while Butler came back with a deuce in eight, to trail 6-5. Birt blanked the ninth to retain hammer coming home, and picked up a deuce in the final frame for an 8-5 win.

Sunday and Monday games are also at 1:30 and 6:30 pm, with the C final Sunday at 6:30, and the two game championship round starting on Monday. If Birt were to win all three sections, the Monday games would not be required.

Masters still underway – Sweetapple in final, MacKay in B final

Marco Polo Land

The Marco Polo Land PEI Masters Curling Championships, for curlers age 60 and over, is still underway. Thursday’s games were moved to Friday, due to a snowstorm. On Friday, the host Charlottetown Curling Club experienced an ice plant failure, forcing another postponement, until Monday. Due to the unavailability of some of the curlers in the men’s division on Monday, it was then decided to hold the final two men’s games earlier. The Men’s B final was played at the Cornwall Curling Club on Friday between the two Scotties draws, with Bill Hope defeating Mel Bernard by a 7-2 score. This sets up the final game, which will be held Sunday evening beginning at 7:30 at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, with “A” section winner Bernard taking on “B” section winner Hope for the men’s Masters title.

Meanwhile, the women’s Masters B final, between Diane MacKay of Cornwall and Jeanne Duffenais of the Silver Fox, will be contested Monday at 10 am back at the Charlottetown club.  The B final winner then faces defending champion Carol Sweetapple  from Cornwall in the 1 pm final, also at Charlottetown.

Sixteen men’s and four women’s teams took part in the double-knockout event.

Men even score at Battle of the Sexes

The Battle of the Sexes mini-tournament (won by the women when it was first held two years ago) was played this morning,  with the ladies off to a good start,  being ahead in points after the  first round of  play.

The men then woke up and came out flying — going ahead  after the second round. They never looked back,  winning  by a good
margin at the end of the draws ( having a year off  and  preparing themselves for  today evidently paid off). Congratulations  guys, well done!
It was a  fun day for all,  and that’s what it is all about. A delicious pizza lunch was  enjoyed by all,  and door prizes  were given out, too.
Now that both sides are even, we  can’t wait ’till next year to break the tie!

O’Rourke rink wins Pre-Scotties cashspiel

The  Kathy O’Rourke rink, the PEI Scotties defending champions and Canadian silver medallists, beat the Kim Dolan team 5-3 this afternoon in final for the “Pre-Scotties” cashspiel at the Cornwall Curling Club, a warmup event for the PEI Scotties Tournament Hearts, also taking place at the Cornwall club, from January 19-27.  The teams took few chances in the final, keeping rocks in play to a minimum, and blanking five of the ten ends. The O’Rourke rink blanked ends seven through nine to have the last rock advantage coming home, where last rock thrower Erin Carmody, facing one Dolan rock with her final stone, managed to get it out, and bite the edge of the 12 foot for the single point.

Sarah Fullerton team repeats as Pepsi Juniors champs

Fullerton team

Photo (L-R) Whitney Young, Sara MacRae, Angela Hodgson (coach, Michelle McQuaid, Sarah Fullerton

Cornwall’s Sarah Fullerton rink had two chances to repeat as Pepsi Bottling Group junior women’s curling champion on Wednesday at the Montague Curling Club, and did it on the first try, defeating their Cornwall clubmates, the Veronica Smith rink, by a 10-2 score. The defending champions led the entire way, stealing the first two ends, and responded to Smith’s single-point third end by taking a triple in the fourth and stealing a single in the fourth for a 6-1 lead at the half. Smith took a single in six, but it was handshake time after Fullerton recorded four points in the seventh end.

Fullerton, with teammates Michelle McQuaid, Sara MacRae, and Whitney Young, and coach Angela Hodgson, won the A section of the triple knockout championship on Monday, and the C on Tuesday evening. The Fullerton rink beat the Smith team 9-2 in the C final, stealing doubles in ends six and seven on the way to the win.

The runner-up Smith rink, which includes Sarah’s sister Katie Fullerton at third, Sabrina Smith at second, and lead Chloe McCloskey, with coach Angela Hodgson, are last season’s 15 and Under champions, and won the B section earlier on Tuesday, beating the Fullerton foursome in the B semi-final, and Montague’s Carolyn Rose rink in the final, both by 10-7 scores. Smith would have had to win both Wednesday championship games to take the title.

The Fullerton team now advances to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Championships, January 29-February 5 in Calgary Alberta, along with the Spencer Pitre rink from Charlottetown, who won the junior men’s title Tuesday evening.

Fullerton one win away from 2nd Jr title, Pitre wins Jr. Men’s

Charlottetown’s Spencer Pitre rink, which includes Connor MacPhee, Matthew Nabuurs, and Eric Pidgeon, with coach Peter Pidgeon, won all three section finals in the triple-knockout Pepsi Bottling Group junior men’s curling championship in Montague, to advance directly to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, January 29-February 5 in Calgary Alberta, without the need for the two game championship round. They won the A final on Monday, 9-4 over Samuel Ramsay and his combined Charlottetown/Montague/Silver Fox team, and beat Cornwall’s Jeffrey Taylor foursome in the B and C finals on Tuesday, both by 8-2 scores.

Meanwhile, Cornwall’s Sarah Fullerton rink will have two chances to repeat as Pepsi Bottling Group junior women’s curling champion on Wednesday at the Montague Curling Club, after winning the A section of the triple knockout championship on Monday, and the C on Tuesday evening. Fullerton, with teammates Michelle McQuaid, Sara MacRae, and Whitney Young, and coach Angela Hodgson, beat their Cornwall clubmates, the Veronica Smith team, 9-2 in the C final, stealing doubles in ends six and seven on the way to the win.

The Smith rink, which includes Sarah’s sister Katie Fullerton at third, Sabrina Smith at second, and lead Chloe McCloskey, with coach Angela Hodgson, are last season’s 15 and Under champions, and won the B section earlier on Tuesday, beating the Fullerton fourrsome in the B semi-final, and Montague’s Carolyn Rose rink in the final, both by 10-7 scores. Smith will have to win both Wednesday championship round games, at 11:30 am and 3 pm, against Fullerton to take the championship, while a Fullerton win in either game will offer a repeat visit to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Championships, January 29-February 5 in Calgary Alberta.

Three Cornwall rinks in Pepsi Juniors “C” finals tonight

There’ll be lots off excitement at the Montague Curling Club beginning at 8:30 tonight, as three Cornwall Curling Club teams compete for the final playoff positions at the Pepsi Juniors.

The Sarah Fullerton rink, defending Junior Women’s champs, will be playing last season’s 15 and Under champions, skipped by Cornwall’s Veronica Smith, with Sarah’s sister Katie at third stone. The Junior Men’s C final will see Cornwall’s Jeffrey Taylor rink try to prevent Charlottetown’s Spencer Pitre rink from taking the championship tonight, as Pitre has already won the A and B sections, and a win in C would send them home with the trophy tonight, and make tomorrow’s two game championship round unnecessary.

If you can’t make it to Montague, end by end results are at peicurling.com/juniors.

Veronica Smith rink wins “B” final at Pepsi Juniors

The Spencer Pitre rink is in the driver’s seat at the men’s division of the Pepsi Bottling Group Provincial Juniors Curling Championships, having captured both the “A” and “B” sections of this triple knockout event. He can take the championship with the 8:30 draw this evening, should he also win the “C” event final. If not, a win in either championship game on Wednesday would give him the title, while his opponent would have to win both games. In the B final this afternoon, the Pitre team, which includes Connor MacPhee, Matthew Nabuurs, and Eric Pidgeon, and plays out of the Charlottetown Curling Club, scored five points in the fourth end en route to an 8-2 win over the Jeffrey Taylor foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club.

There are separate “A” and “B” winners in the junior women’s division, with last year’s age 15 and Under champions, the Veronica Smith rink out of Cornwall, who were trailing 7-6 after eight ends, picking up a triple in the 9th, and stealing a single in the tenth end to beat the Carolyn Rose rink of Montague by a 10-7 score to win this morning’s “B” final. Other members of the Smith rink are Katie Fullerton, Sabrina Smith, and Chloe McCloskey. The defending champion Sarah Fullerton rink, also from Cornwall won the “A” section on Monday.

The 5 pm draw this afternoon will see Rose take on Fullerton, and Smith play Amanda MacLean of O’Leary, in the women’s division, while, in the men’s section, Taylor faces Matthew MacLean of O’Leary, and Pitre takes on Samuel Ramsay and his combined Charlottetown/Montague/Silver Fox team, with the winners playing in the “C” finals at 8:30 this evening.

The championship round is scheduled for 11:30 am and 3:30 pm Wednesday, with the winners advancing to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, January 29-February 5, 2011, in Calgary.

Cornwall’s Taylor and Smith rinks playing in Pepsi Jrs. “B” section finals today

The “B” and “C” finals go today at the Pepsi Bottling Group Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Montague. On Monday, defending champion Sarah Fullerton of Cornwall, along with Spencer Pitre of Charlottetown won the A Sections of this triple knockout event.

There will be a different winner in the junior women’s B section as Fullerton lost 10-7 in a B playoff game to Cornwall’s Veronica Smith team, which includes Fullerton’s younger sister, Katie, at third stone. A four-point fifth end was key for Smith, who was trailing until that point. Amanda MacLean of O’Leary’s Maple Leaf club, who played Fullerton in the A final, lost her B qualifier  6-4 to Carolyn Rose of Montague, so it will be Rose vs Smith in the B section final,  at 8:30 this morning.

In junior men’s play Monday night, Jeffery Taylor of Cornwall outscored “A” section winner Sam Ramsay whose team includes players from the Charlottetown, Montague and Silver Fox clubs, 10-8 while Pitre downed the Tyler Smith-skipped junior men’s Canada Games team from the Silver Fox in Summerside 9-2. Taylor and Pitre will meet in the junior men’s B final today at 1 p.m.

The “C” finals are also today, at 8:30 pm, following afternoon draws at 1 and 5 pm.

The winners of the section finals advance to the two game Championship round at 11:30 am and 3 pm on Wednesday. If the same team wins all three sections, the championship round would not be needed. If a team takes two section finals, they would play in both games, and win the title if they took either.

The eventual winners will advance to the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors, January 29-February 5, 2011, in Calgary.

Six teams have signed up to-date, including the defending  champion and Canadian silver medallist Kathy O’Rourke rink, the Suzanne Birt team who were runners up at the recent Hub City Shootout in Moncton (Birt is also a five-time provincial women’s champ and a World Junior champ), along with the reigning PEI senior women’s champs, the Shirley Berry team from Cornwall and Charlottetown, the Donna Butler rink from Cornwall, the Tammy Dewar foursome from Montague, and the Kim Dolan team from Charlottetown. CURLING CLUB CHAMPIONS DECLARED

CHARLOTTETOWN, Nov. 30 /CNW/ – The Dominion Curling Club Championship – Canada’s first-ever national championship for club curlers – made curling history on Sunday night, declaring its second annual men’s and women’s Canadian Champions after a week of heated competition between the best club teams from each of the country’s provinces and territories.

Men’s Team Saskatchewan, skipped by Darren Camm and from the Sutherland Curling Club, brought home the national title for their province after a tight contest against their opponents from Ontario.

Women’s Team Alberta, led by skip Nanette Dupont and from the Lethbridge Curling Club, triumphed over the women finalists from Saskatchewan.

Each champion was presented with a commemorative plaque and medal amidst closing ceremonies that featured all 112 competing curlers piped onto the ice in their provincial and territorial colours and bearing their respective flags.

The second annual The Dominion Curling Club Championship ran November 23-28 at Prince Edward Island’s Charlottetown and Cornwall Curling Clubs, and welcomed guest speakers that included Jim Waite, Olympic Curling Coach for Canada, and two-time Paralympic Gold Medalist curler Sonja Gaudet.

“Yesterday’s exciting finals continue a long and important tradition for curling and amateur sport in our country,” said George Cooke, President and CEO of The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company (The Dominion). “The people in PEI have been gracious hosts. We’re grateful to have once again been so warmly received by the Canadian curling community.  We look forward to next year’s event in Richmond, British Columbia.”

All profits from The Dominion Curling Club Championship are being directed to the Canadian Paraplegic Association and developmental curling initiatives in communities across the country. The 2010 event raised $30,000 for CPA PEI.  “The funds raised through The Dominion Curling Club Championship event will vastly change the CPA PEI’s capacity to assist those that need our services in the PEI community. We are so grateful to our friends at The Dominion and to everyone that contributed to the astounding success of this event,” said Paul Cudmore, Executive Director of CPA PEI.
