The first ever Red & Yellow was a huge success – and not just because the Yellow team WON!
The Red & Yellow actually began on March 16th with our junior curlers playing their portion and continued throughout the month with our novice and stick curlers participating just before the closing spiel began last Friday.
The closing spiel was full with 24 teams for each colour and the scores going back and forth throughout the event.
As the final draw was being played and with only a handful of rocks remaining both teams had a mathematical chance to win – especially after one of the Red teams won a $21,000 skin to end the game.
But the rest of the last rocks went Yellow’s way as they secured a 51,000 point win!
The top scoring team of the event, with an impressive 70,000 points, was Yellow #7 which included Paul Neima, John Clark, Amanda MacIntosh, and Mary Whalley. (NOTE: John’s luck was running strong on Saturday as he also won the 50/50 that day!)
Just behind them, with 69,000 points, was Red #2 with Paul Durant, Eugene Murphy, Leonard Cudmore, and Kim Thomson.
The third place team, with 67,000 points, was Red #1 comprised of Roger DesRoches, Garth Nicholson, Carlene Peters, and Art O’Malley.
The 4th place team, with 59,000 points, was Yellow #9 with Cody Whynot, Connor MacEwen, Brittany Dugal, and Chris MacDougall.
The Lucky Loonie winners were Red #5!
Best dressed on Team Red was Gordon Matthews, with the runner up being Hans Wicki.
Best dressed on Team Yellow was Alan Mason, with the runner up being Paul Neima.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the banquet meal provided by Sizzler BBQ and during the banquet the club recognized Roy Coffin with the Founders Award for Volunteer of the Year at the club. Congrats to Roy on his well deserved recognition.
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event go so smoothly and for all those who participated – what a fun way to end a wonderful season.
