Blue increases lead slightly at Red and Blue Stick Curling event

An absolutely awesome day yesterday here at 29 Cornwall Road as 32 Stick Curlers celebrated the end of the year with a fantastic Red and Blue event!!

Our awesome organizer John Dunsford did an exceptional job of leading a fun club-wide points race for the Stick Curling Division…while also wrapping up a very successful stick curling season!!

This year we had more stick curlers than in the history of the club~ from beginners to experienced curlers, it was a great season!

There was lots of Red and Blue action yesterday, as the Red Team had their work cut out for them to try and catch the Blue Team who were way ahead heading into the points race!

Previous to the day’s event the Red Team had 57,000 points and the Blue Team had 86,000.

There were some close games and the Red Team gave it a good go~ but the Blue Team gained 102,000 more points, while the Red Team gained 90,000.

It was a super busy day for our Club and we didn’t manage to get as many photos as we hoped~ but we did snap a few!!

During the event, the Red and Blue Stick Curlers made a lovely presentation to our awesome Ice Technician Brent, and to our Club Manager Lori, who were both very touched.

Sandersons

We started the day with some yummy cinnamon buns kindly baked by Patsy Sanderson, and some donuts from Robins Donuts. We were so happy to partner with Sam’s Family Restaurant & Pub to provide a delicious pizza lunch.

A special thank you to John Dunsford for organizing this super fun way to end the year!!

Much gratitude to all the volunteers who stepped in to help: Etta Reid, Elaine Hughes, Patsy Sanderson, Myrna Sanderson, Jane MacKay, and Ruth Stavert!

Ernie

A very, very, special thank you to Stick Curling Legend Ernie Stavert who volunteered to keep score. No Stick Curling event is a success without Ernie!!
Thank you so much Ernie for your incredible wisdom, knowledge, and support!

Until next year Stick Curlers!!
Have a great summer!

Blue increases lead as Juniors take to the ice Sat. morning with special guests!

And we’re off !!
Club spirit is alive and well here today at the Cornwall Curling Club!!
And our hearts are full!

This morning the first game of the Red and Blue event~ Junior Division took place and there have been some great shots !!

We have a total of 25 junior curlers participating today, along with 13 special guests! All of our special guests today have represented Prince Edward Island at National events, like the Scotties, Brier, Masters, and the Everest Curling Club and Seniors National Championships!!

All of your junior curlers were combined with curlers they do not normally curl with and each of our honoured guests joined a team.

There were lots of close games here today… but more importantly LOTS and LOTS of smiles and broom taps!

A genuine thank you to Prince Edward Island Curling Legend Susan McInnis and Peake and McInnis Ltd. Insurance Brokers for supporting our event today and providing a delicious pizza lunch from Sam’s Family Restaurant & Pub to all of our young curlers!!

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our special guests who were so generous in donating some amazing swag!

Our juniors received some awesome jerseys worn at National events, and most of our young curlers put them on immediately upon receiving them and were so proud! One curler was heard saying, after receiving an Asham hat donated from our very own PEI Scotties Champion Julie Scales,  she was so excited to “wear it all summer!”

Okay here’s the points update…
So far Team Blue has added to the overall club points total.

Coming into today’s event Team Blue was leading 11-7 over Team Red (after our Little Rockers and Novice Division took place on Tuesday).

Today, after our first games, Team Blue added 25 more points, and Team Red added 21 points.

This means Team Blue is leading the Red and Blue points race 36 to 28!!!

Let’s see what this afternoon will bring!

Currently, Curl PEI is hosting a ‘Hit, Tap, Draw’ competition…stay tuned for the results!!
