We were sad to hear of the recent passing of Donald Spence, father of club member Brock Spence and would like to extend our condolences to his family.

OBITUARY

With heavy hearts, the family of Donald Stephen Spence, age 88, announces his passing on October 2, 2026 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital following a brief illness.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His family was everything to him. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed harness racing, the Toronto Blue Jays, and family card nights (that were filled with howling laughter following some predictable card bids).

Don shared his unwavering generosity with all. He was a tireless volunteer with many organizations including Telephone Pioneers, Charlottetown and Parkdale Sherwood Lions Clubs, PEI Association for the Hearing Impaired, and Paralympics PEI.

Don is survived by his children Mitch (Jan), Scott (Brenda Carr), Pam Quilty (Walter) and Brock (Nicole Herbert); grandchildren Tyler Carr (Jenna), Amy Spence, Lauren Quilty (Josh) and Liam Quilty (Jordan); great-grandchild Cooper; sister Linda Jardine (Barry); sister-in-law Phyllis Spence; brother-in-law Lew Withrow; many nieces and nephews; special lifelong neighbors Jean Kimpinski and Verna Wood; and dear friends.

Born in Prince’s Lodge, NS, Don was the son of the late Victor and Ruth Spence. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 62 years, Joy Spence (Sheridan); brother Robert Spence; sisters-in-law Joan Cameron (Don), Judy Withrow, and Jackie Sheridan; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Leroy and Myrtle (Horne) Sheridan.

Donations in memory of Don may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. The family encourages acts of kindness in Don’s memory so that his life may be a testament to the power of love and the importance of making this world a better place, one kind gesture at a time.
