Joining the Cornwall Curling Club’s Tuesday night Competitive League, in addition to a league at another club, has proven advantageous for at least two teams this year. The Suzanne Birt rink from that league won the Scotties Tournament of Hearts provincial women’s title here at our club, while the Bill Hope rink took the Credit Unions of PEI senior men’s honours last month in O’Leary. A reception for the Hope rink, who open play on Saturday against Nova Scotia’s Scott Saunders rink at the World Financial Group Canadian Seniors in Digby NS was held last night, with Club President Karen Currie on hand to present the team with a cheque to help with their expenses.

Unfortunately, the two-time defending champion Shirley Berry rink, also from our club, lost in the women’s final this year, and the June Moyaert foursome from Montague are the Island women’s champions. They open against Scott Saunders’ wife, two time world women’s champion Colleen Jones, on Saturday.
